"No one ever talks about the really hard parts of first contact with intelligent alien life: pronouns. I'm going to go with "he" for now, because it just seems rude to call a thinking being "it". Also, until I hear otherwise, his name is Rocky."

(And then, he'll spend the next 23 years trying and failing to save little kids from the Games... Haymitch's story is so tragic)

Plutarch waves me over to a plant that hangs from a beam. [...] As I inhale the faintly sweet, faintly rotten smell, Plutarch points to one. "They put out a nectar. Insects adore it. But the surface is slippery, and they fall into the pod and can't get out. They drown and are consumed."

The foreshadowing of the Arena, just like Plutarch will do for Katniss in the future

This line from the movie has so much meaning now, and the depth of Haymitch's trauma is way deeper than we thought.

Honest question: If the "creepy magical" mist cuts Blunder from the outside world with its salty-wimey properties, how on Earth this "kingdom" can have so much merchants and imports? I swear, I'm starting to believe this "kingdom" is inhabited by 500 people, at most... Reading this lackluster world-building attempt really takes me out completely, I'm utterly bored

This whole scene is stupid, Destriers are supposed to be the "best" warriors in Blunder, and they're getting lectured about the Highwayman (people they already know) while witnessing a very poorly executed "action" sequence; also, Ravyn assaulting the Prince while practicing is stupid as f...

This is book is... weird. It reads like a first draft, with a lot of exposition that has no businessbeing where it is, and the author tends to repeat herself a lot (I swear I read Ravyn and Destrier at least 8 times in two pages); the only positive thing is that it's a very easy read, let's see how it goes
