i'm about half way through, and it's surprising to me that she writes about herself, as a child actress, as if she were bette davis. she was on zoey 101 for pete's sake. she also seems surprisingly selfish and unaware of the problems her sister was having.

she mentions being latina, in 1956 during Mr. wonderful. but my dad said, he never heard that until the 70s. this feels anachronistic to me, although since it's written much later in life, maybe that's not what she would have said/thought at that time.

a good narrator, but he's a low talker, and kind of mumbly. it's like listening to someone talk, but you can't ask him to speak more clearly. and his voice is very somnolent

not every author should narrate. also, i can't believe at 35 she wasn't using birth control.

switched to audio book so i could return to the library.

chapter 7: highlights where he voted for the better of his country rather than in bloc with his party. what a shock. that could never happen now. there is more loyalty to one's party than to one's country. bipartisanship died decades ago, and we are reaping the harvest of that bitter fruit today.

why does he think it's the "man's" job to put toys together. some of these stories are interesting, but i feel like the point of them is to show is republican bona fides.

seriously? comparing merging families to the israel/palestine conflict? that's a little tone deaf.

chapter 4: seems really strange to me that he would equate secret santa with democratic ballot box rigging. is this book trying to make us more bipartisan? or is this book trying to divide people more. that could have totally been left out. strangely petty in a book of christmas stories.

i feel like so much of this is malarky.

his telling of the birth of christ is sure something. like they had paper and pencil and hospitals in israel.
