Mender is on page 56 of 320 of Anne of Green Gables (Anne of Green Gables, #1)
I read this when I was very young - or at least I started to, but made no headway.

Taking it on again as an adult, the first thing that's struck me is Anne's list of poems she's memorised. They're blood-filled battles. The incongruousness of it, in this sunshine-and-roses character, cracked me up, and I'm disposed to like her now.

I HAVE FINISHED THE BOOK BACKLOG!!

HUZZAH.

All updates from here on will be books I can actually remember because I have just finished them. I am beyond relieved that this project is finally over.

"Pale-faced ladies with artificially blackened teeth to simulate the mark of luxury that was sugar-induced decay (a fact I always remember in our modern age of bottle tans and teeth whitening procedures)."

I thought I was making so much progress on getting through my backlog of book reviews, because instead of taking up two columns in my to-doist app I was back down to one.

Just counted. There are still a hundred to go.

I'd skip the whole thing but then I end up re-reading books that were terrible because they were so terrible I forgot I read them.

The trouble with this guy is he is a troll.

Some parts are genuinely, amazingly hilarious.

Other parts are just cruel.

Extraordinarily lacking in empathy, it's hit and miss all the way through so far.

Mender is on page 10 of 192 of Rival's Challenge (The Chatsfield, #6)
This book has launched straight into infodumping the MC's backstory. Paragraph after paragraph of unrelenting infodumps. God. I'm only reading it for the Author's name

This book is currently looking like a really frigging tedious cliche. It's awfully like Montana 1948 where you can see the righteously moral ending coming at you with a shovel from six pages in. Hoping I'll be proven wrong. Not holding my breath.

So torn on this book. One one hand, I stayed up late last night to get this far. It has compelling moments and sometimes really engaging characters. On the other hand, I'm really tempted to throw in the towel and not finish it. Problematic. I'll try to push through but in spite of it being well written still might DNF

struggling with this just after the intro and was going to abandon it but a dozen good reviews are suggesting I at least stick it out to meet the main character

This book has already reached my limit on painful stilted oversharing awkward dialogue. Let's all sit and discuss our sex-specific relationship issues with our work colleagues over breakfast, shall we?

I was really liking this! It has an interesting character, and support characters that look like they have intriguing backstories. Then chapter 2, the pov changes. Still cool with it. More interesting characters, no-one particularly unlikable. Ok. Then it switches again. Third new pov character, third set of support acts. I'm starting to lose interest. If it does it one more time I'm out. I hate that shit.

7 pages of actual text in, and I'm already inclined to despise each of the main characters. Tactless, arrogant, superior little snots have sneered at a very professional Real Estate agent who would receive very little comission for finding a home for their disagreeable, poor, oversized family, has phoned said elitists who have already turned down numerous properties and is insulted then hung up on by a 15yr old.

Ran out of time and had to take it back to the library, but I'm liking it. Started slow, but is bringing in a lot of characters from previous books and making me smile.

God there's a lot of infodumping happening. Can't just tell the story, have to narrate step by step how the imaginary magic works in this world. Too much unnecessary boring detail.

I despise these children. First off I only despised Seth, but now they're both on my shit list. Seth is an ungrateful, self-serving little moron who needs consequences for his actions, preferably in the form of his death.

Making no progress on this for months. Keep picking it up, reading a few pages, hating it, quitting. Alina has gone from "I cannot kill the deer" to 'Kill them all, POWER', I detest new character Sturmhond, and the plot moves forward by Alina keeping secrets from Mal. I hate that sort of dumb plot, where if they talked it would be sorted in seconds. Pathetic.

Have three books halfway through that I pick up in a circular fashion when one of them bores me. Incredibly tedious. And I was looking forward to all of them :(

Just tried to organize my bookshelf so it has a shelf for books I own that I haven't read yet.
Gave up. Just did a count - I own 174 books that I haven't read. Not counting the 10 I just bought today. I need a nap.

I just bought ten new books and borrowed two from the library. I think it's some sort of mental glitch that makes me unable to comprehend 'too many books'

Mender is reading Unearthly (Unearthly, #1)
Audiobook, so about 6cds in? The storyline is ok, in a very focused on inconsequential details sort of way, but the narrator. Oh my god. She has this really really embarrassing to listen to little girl sex voice that is just awful. And her interpretations of the book are just... this book would be much better as a book.

Not enjoying this at all. I'm not invested in the characters, and I don't particularly care which order they die off in. And given that there's no distinction between the good guys and the bad guys, it really matters bugger all who wins

Sweet jesus, this is the most tedious thing I've ever been trapped in the car with. CD1; feeling slightly inspired; CD3 ENTIRELY LISTS OF EXERCISES TO TARGET MUSCLE GROUPS. Utterly inappropriate. Either you already know it, or you don't want to know it AND IT NEVER ENDS

Mender is reading Affliction (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #22)
About halfway, in no danger of stopping but definitely struggling. So much dialogue that is not dialogue. It's stuff that people would never, ever, never say out loud. It breaks down all propriety to ask those questions out loud and no-one in their right mind would give an honest answer to a complete goddamn stranger. Lazy writing. Also people do not talk in paragraphs.
