This book has me groaning and not in a good way. Someone put me out of my misery.

Is it too much to ask for a female lead that isn’t constantly thirsting over some guy? I appreciate a good enemies to lovers as much as the next person but the amount of times I’ve already had to stop reading and sigh in exasperation is ridiculous.

Okay. I comment about mermaids and the next bit is literally about her being interested in sea life and wanting to be one of those people who dress up as mermaids. If this is not a Chekhov’s gun I will buy a physical copy of this book just to eat these pages.

I don’t see it in the tags but I am calling some mythical aspect now. Lots of water things mentioned in the first chapter so maybe mermaids? But mom is also weird about daughter growing up and people keep being drawn to their looks so maybe sirens? I hope I can laugh about being completely off base later.

On to a strong start with “violet eyes”. That’s some tumblr level shit. Lol.

Just know I am docking a star because MCs basically abandoned their cat. Am I petty? Yes. But is the reasoning stupid? Extremely.

The one girl is a vampire by the way she over reacted to garlic and you can’t convince me otherwise.

This book reads like a fever dream and a stroke had a baby.

I hate when books are a continuation of an other series and no mention of that fact is made. 🙃

Audible is apparently glitching and insisting this isn’t in the plus catalogue anymore to spare me from suffering. If it was better I would buy it to finish but honestly the summary was a lie and the characters were already driving me up a wall so…bullet dodged I guess.

One of my pet peeves in fantasy is having magick that is OP without any limitations. I’m not saying soft magick is bad but there is definitely a difference between not giving magick any clear boundaries and characters just going “yolo!” and doing whatever. This book is the second fyi. I feel no investment with any of the conflict because I know someone will pull some bs out of their ass. =P

Still hate the MCs but like Max and Quinn. If they meet and become friends maybe I’ll ignore the douche bag MCs and give the book a better rating.

I put this book down because I couldn’t stand the characters or writing. Picking it back up because I’m a masochist who won’t let a bad book beat me.

Not restarting because that 2% was bad enough the first time and I have the rest of the book to trudge through.

I really thought I was going to enjoy this but I am so boooored. Can we get to people being eaten already?

Listen. Big, strong, dumb, men raising little girls will forever be one of my favorite tropes.

Wow. I just switch from the audiobook to the e-book and, serious question, do they not use quotations in Canada? It’s so hard to follow if someone is speaking or if she’s just narrating.

-sigh- It was going so well...
Do people really find aggressively possessive an attractive trait? I’m fine with dominate male characters but the whole insecure bullshit when someone else so much as looks at “his woman” is getting old. =P

Got this thinking it was going to be a silly alien erotica. But so far the plot has been surprising good and I’m enjoying the characters. Fingers crossed that it stays good and doesn’t wander into unnecessary jealousy/abusive relationship territory!
