I was right Leah’s going to be lost to the sea!🌊 Utterly tragic as it is I like the plot of Marine Researcher essentially becoming a mermaid but of course transformation doesn’t occur without loss.

This entire book is about grief. Specifically it focuses on grief that comes of disaster leaving you unprepared floating in confusion and at times desperate. I’d say looming loss is the main theme as seen through Miri’s mom dying of Alzheimer’s of her hypochondria and fear for her future health -what will Leah’s story become. She’s like a self fulfilling prophecy but it’s not gills she grows.

Personal preference of mine: I don’t love the tone of this book. It’s very heavy and drawn out which is fitting given the plot surrounds Miri a hypochondriacs wife trudging through life with her wife who she gave up for dead after her 3 week submarine mission was drawn out to 6 months lost to the depths of the sea.🌊

Decided I’m not finishing this book because I have a feeling it’s going to get really detailed and focus on torturing and forever trapping these characters in what might as well be hell. I don’t want to go through that. Also I looked at a synopsis and the only character I’m invested in kills herself after being saved from torture so I’m out.

I am genuinely afraid right now and stopping myself from looking up spoilers. They’re following Basil into the closets impossible hallway! I would never!!! This is clearly the opening to the wardens “Beehive”/prison that they were just threatened with!

The concept is interesting. The protagonist is negative in an annoying way. Lots of room for improvement though so she could really show out in the third act. This would make a fun movie.

I hate the narrator and am not surprised he was the murderer because he’s awful. That isn’t to say everyone else doesn’t suck too. The big plan of putting blanks in the gun and humiliating him and then just saying get off my island. Like I would have expected that guy to go on a shooting spree he already intended to kill!

You know what it is. I was brought up to never side with a pathetic man. Ted Bundy was the example of why we do not seek to help men that want us to know how pathetic they are. This narrator is not a man I can rute for and that’s despite his childhood bullying and messed up relationship power dynamics with Barbra.

I don’t like the narrator, there’s just something about how he talks about himself like he’s a forever victim. I’m tired of listening to him but I want to know what happens. I predicted the affair that was predictable and I feel like the narrator is just slowing down plot with sad woe is every character in this book. It’s dragging.

I imagine this would have been difficult to write. So many shifting perspectives each character with a different hand of knowledge. I am not as immersed as I tend to get in murder mysteries but I am intrigued so I will continue.

Truth is difficult to face.

Well I’m furious at incompetence surrounding these women and men in general. I’m debating whether to try to sleep or keep going because this has already amped me up so much that it’s unlikely I will calm down when I’ve already been struggling to sleep this week.

The way this book has me yelling in my empty apartment at 1 am

I feel like there’s a scream in the back of my throat after those phone calls to the parents. This book is so well written it’s going to take a lot for me to get through this. Well maybe not I am in the night of the killings right now so of course it’s brutal and traumatic.

I’m listening to the audiobook and this is well written to the point that I am unnerved and feel like I’m present at this sorority house waking up to find my sisters attacked.

Listening to epilogue right now. Loved the narrator especially when voicing Heathers Edinburgh borruh. I don’t love this but I think that’s mainly due to the tone of desperation in so many if not all of the characters. The icy location matched the cold characters. Plot was good I think I’d give this 6.5/10

Holy shit I just remembered the stalker!

I never attach to Lucy Foley characters they’re so unlikable but I stick around because I adore isolation murder reads.

This reminds me of The Guest List another Lucey Foley book. While it’s an ensemble cast Miranda is bad bitch and holds all the gravity of this group. Katie was once her best shadow and now there’s serious distance between the two and secrets and hella animosity. Emma is a strange one a lil copycat that makes excuses.

She didn’t consider modeling until her early thirties. Bless her I love this book.

Cicely Tyson you got your diploma!!✨ You left a marriage you never wanted and you are an inspiration in your quest for Better and treatment of your princess Joan 💕 You just became a legal secretary and I’m sure your story is about to take some turns, I love this book.

I just want to say we’ve gone through the separation of Cicely’s parents the Great Depression- white people throwing themselves off buildings after struggling to live how people of color often lived in those times. The revelation of puberty along with puppy love squashed at 12 years old - although she introduced him to her friend and they stayed together up to the altar so that’s something.

Cicely Tyson narrates this herself and her voice is beautiful her vocabulary is vast and every word said with thought and intention. It’s a long book but I have no doubt I’ll finish it because I get to listen and know her better.

I’m very confident that this is a nightmare and the main character hasn’t realized yet but — damn

I am so invested in this book

I am thoroughly immersed in this. The tension has built so well with this historically demonic secluded Brier House and the additional tension of the friendship breakup. Rosa 🌹 gives sorceress who sacrifices men for extended fame and youth. The fact that they’re both Hungarian and everyone keeps tying it back to a similarity between Alex and Rosa.

So we’re flashing back to the day Amanda died and I’m very confident Nicole is involved I think that’s why she doesn’t remember much when she thinks back on her childhood. As I say that there’s been much foreshadowing for this and I am suspicious of Lucas- Beth’s ex and Amanda’s elder brother
