Intriguing beginning. There’s an element of unreliable narrator, as Shay holds on to secrets of her past with her roommates from college. One died her senior year and another recently, 8 years since the first. Shay listens to the true crime podcast of her childhood best friend, and becomes convinced her former roommate was murdered. Looking forward to the mystery unfolding.

Only a little over halfway through but this novel has been compelling throughout. The disappearance of the wife of a local doctor lands Thatcher Hutton in jail. He’s a WWI soldier trying to make his way back to the only home he’s known, and had asked the missing woman for a place to stay while he made some cash to send him on his way. Nothing about Foley, Texas is what it seems, keeping you hooked throughout.

This story has it all: sci-fi, romance, humor and mystery! Each part equally balanced to keep you intrigued throughout the novel. Jainan and Kiem have you rooting for them the whole way through!

I read this to compare to the movie. It was an enjoyable read. There were enough differences between the two to make it a fun read after seeing the movie, and Vice versa, I’m sure. This was my first Christie and I’m looking forward to reading more! There is a reason she was considered a literary great for so many years!
