This book is really, really good. I'm finding the recursive nature of the flashbacks frustrating, but the book is wonderful.

Let's just say, coming from a Ph.D. candidate that stalled out 13 years ago and never finished her diss, that this book is hilarious. I highly doubt that people that are not part of academia will find this book as funny as I do, but I can't help that.

The first time I read this book, I read it in print. I had no idea that words spelled with a "Dj" were pronounced with just the "J," so that the kingdom featured in this book, Djelibeybi, is pronounced "Jellybaby." You can learn so much when listening to an audiobook.

In 2001, one of my dearest friends, a young woman named Jean Flath, died suddenly. She was 28. She lived and loved during her short life, but she didn't have a HEA. We called her Jeanie. I keep thinking about her as I listen to this book, and I wish this were her HEA. (This is the first time I've really imagined a real person into a book, but I also really wish that Jean had found her love.)

I'm getting really frustrated with this book and, by extension, anything published by Red Tower. The plot and characterization are fine, but any time sexual attraction appears, it doesnt read well. It may be because I'm an experienced reader of both romance *and* fantasy, but I hate when either is poorly done. So far, no Red Tower book has worked as both. Romantasy is a hybrid, sure, but it could learn from its past.

I wanted to read this when it came out, but I *knew* I needed to reread of Maas' earlier books before I touched it. I'm finally ready. Bring the pain. (Literally, my arm hurts due to a very minor overworking injury, and this book is *heavy*).

I'm enjoying this book. It feels like a while since I read a well-developed fantasy world with a strong political focus. (which wasn't satire)

I have an OwlCrate copy of this book, but I'm currently reading it as an ebook. Why? Because it was available for free to borrow through Kindle Unlimited, and reading it as an ebook keeps my hardcover in beautiful unread condition. That said, I'm kinda annoyed that I paid so much for the OwlCrate box only to have this book (the July 2023 book) and the August 2023 OwlCrate available on KU within two months of release.

I am *loving* the new audiobook for "Guards! Guards!" It is perfectly read so far, and an improvement over the prior narrator.

I'm loving this book, but some scenes are so cringe-worthy that I just have to keep setting it down. Then I pick it up again five minutes later, because I have to know what happened...

I stopped reading this book after my last update seven years ago. I recently picked it up again, and I hope to finish it this time. I like the book, but I keep getting the sense that Schwab's imagination goes in far darker directions than I'm comfortable reading. Then I pick up the book again, and it wasn't as dark as I feared. Very few writers make me this uncomfortable.

I'm so bored that I looked ahead to the ending. It seems like there's just been pages and pages of fluff that's not advancing the mystery. Signa is a frustrating main character. She's barely there on the page. Her interest in her mother's etiquette book is interesting. We're told that she struggles to follow it and everyone sees her spirit being stifled, but that's not evident on the page. She's not compelling.

I always forget how whiny Victor is. I wonder, too, if one could call him a sociopath. After all, no one feels the sort of pain he feels. When an innocent woman has been condemned to death for murdering a child, Victor's pain is what's important. She has the comfort of her innocence... but, oh, the pain he feels is not to be imagined!

It's been 12 years since I read this, and having just finished season 1 of The Sandman on Netflix, I've decided to pick it up again. I've stopped for the night right before "The Sound of her Wings." It's just as wonderful as I remember. And the Netflix series was extraordinary. It captured the heart of the story, with minimal changes.

I think I'm too old for this book. It has all the hallmarks of something that I would have adored when I was 15 (or even 13), but my age is finally catching up to me.

I had to switch to reading this in Kindle format. Both the audiobook and ebook are checked out from the library, and I'm thankful for that. I don't think I will reread this one. The constant references to the Fat Times (when Colie and her mother Kiki were fat) are disturbing me. As an obese women, I couldn't handle listening to someone obsess about their weight.

I've been on a Sarah Dessen binge ever since I saw that 'Along for the Ride' would be released on Netflix in late April. I've been working my way through the Colby books. This one may end that binge. I trust Dessen, but the early focus on weight loss is in this book is upsetting me. Yes, it's being shown as both good and bad (which is a slightly more nuanced take than many YA novels) but I worry about what's ahead.

I'm about an hour and half into this audiobook, and I'm taking a break from it. I'm not thrilled with how much time has been given to a conversation at the opening of the book. In order to get into it, I may watch an episode or two of the TV show. I can tell it's a good book, but the pacing is so slow that the audiobook is not working for me.
