This was great. Everything from November to the end was giving “this was going to have a fourth book but we had to pivot to wrap it all up in three” (where is Callie’s story? Gimme more Zeke? How did Ursula and Xavier fully disappear from the wedding scene). BUT really a delightful series. Give me all the cozy witchy books. Bonus points to this one having literal black girl magic. We love to see it.

Am I the only reading this scene stressed Gus is going to Sirena his cold?

Reality show Dealing with the Deerworths (sp?)

The way Sydney stays mired in the MLM of LillyLou also doesn't sit right with me. It makes sense and I get it, but after reading two books with cults recently it's impossible to ignore the similarities and it made that whole thread so sad and hard.

The ending was perfect but also made me a little sad because while Mae is (mostly) making a new path for herself it seems like Sydney is falling into the same patterns as her mother and trapped as much as she was as a child and younger woman. But maybe that's the point? And maybe with the ending we have space to intuit that things will be different after she reconnects with Mae again?

whooo this was a ride. No one does complex and sometimes flawed characters quite like Corey. The way the two storylines are in conversation with each other just as Sydney and Mae are in conversation with Beth Ann and Joni is done really well. Even if it did sometimes make it hard to figure out who to "root for" in the story sometimes.

Secrets could be kept, but the feeling of secrets in the air—that was harder to tamp down.

This was almost art. It was art stripped of all depth and beauty.

This was really cute. I wasn’t sure what to expect after Ursula’s arc in the first book but I really enjoyed her redemption arc and her story here. This felt more well-developed and plotted than the first book. I still don’t think she knew the books would be a series (or at least a series going in this direction) when she wrote book one.

This is a very complex narrative but I think the problem for me is that no one is likeable. We’re getting all sides of this falling out. But everyone is terrible. So I feel like there’s no one to root for. Which I think is the point. But also ….?
