This was more a case of me having different expectations for the book based on marketing copy. I wanted something more romancey/in the vein of Rainbow Rowell. This is more community/bookstore centric which is very fun and was done well but just wasn't what I was expecting/wanting.

I also think talking about some of the moments as museum before they happened undercut the bigger reveals (why Mena left, some of Fawkes backstory).

I liked the pieces of this but I think the writing style was trying to capture that omniscient fairytale style narration in some ways but the perspective was too close for it and it only served to create a barrier between the reader and the characters. Gentle and weird. Give this to fans of Skipshock, Marcus Sedgwick and Parker Peeveyhouse.

Callisto had grown up outside of time, Fawkes had grown up *all over* time.

Beneath it he [Fawkes] wore his own flimsy boxers and a ragged chest binding.

Hmmm. I like the bones of this but I see what reviews mean about it getting really convoluted really quickly. Shifting from cool time travel to timey wimey over here.

I want to know that when your moment comes, you won’t hide from it.

Good conclusion but not as strong as the first. I see why we got some yuchen pov but it actually weakened the story because it made me so bummed for [redacted]. Much more skewed action to characterization ratio too which made me less interested. One chase to the next and repeat.

Wasn’t sure about the beginning. Hard seeing the team in disarray but ending strong

There are a handful of moments in life when the meaning of destiny becomes clears.

You must look to the future, daughter, and choose how you wish to shape it.

This is such a solid series. Very curious to see what the next two books have in store.

Ohhhh. Lockwood really is the hollow boy.

Because poor yuchen is being tortured this feels way more violent than the first book.
