Chapter 5: America has spent decades and billions of dollars engaging in “National Security” and wars that were misguided and largely irrelevant (except for the consequential increase in actual enemies) whilst ignoring actual threats to the safety and well-being of its residents. Also, the interesting and profound difference between “national security” and “national defence”

Also chapter 4: with their latest publications of their plans for the future, the navy and army both have completed buried and ignored any lessons learned from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, instead retreating back into the grandiose language of the Joint Vision and Cold War era mumbo-jumbo.

Chapter 4 continued: America deluded itself - Pentagon’s Joint Vision of “Full Spectrum Dominance” declaring that having the most advanced tech in war would guarantee swift victory.

Chapter 4: Global War On Terror nothing but an artifice poorly disguising a neo-imperial enterprise - war with a markedly inferior adversary with results indistinguishable from defeat.

Chapter 3: “special relationships” should be tossed into the dustbin of history. The one with the UK is nothing but outdated false hopes and the one with Israel is the US as sugar daddy.

Thought from end of chapter 2: NATO may be a relic of the past, but I doubt American would be willing to give up all of the bases scattered across Europe that it allows. Yes, Europe needs to shoulder more of the burden of its own strategic military defence, but there needs to be a rational reason for American to continue its overbearing presence.
