So Equality-72521 appears to be the narrator of the story and refers to itself as “we” and refers to Liberty 5-3000 as they. Very weird as it is clear that the character are singular man and woman respectively. I don’t mind gender neutral language but I don’t think it works in this instance. This whole time, I assumed these titles represented collective groups of people.

The point of views shifts between Harry and Aldina are smooth. Both voices are unique, and the stakes are high.

“We walked fast as if trying to stay in the daytime, afraid that nightfall would turn over the uncertain pages of our lives.”

Wow! That’s heavy, especially after Ishmael and his companions experienced the death of one of their friends.

I just finished reading book one. It’s average writing and average storytelling with a desperate need for editing. In a rag-tag mix of scenes that serve as info dump and fast-and-the-furious style chase scenes, the reader really doesn’t know who Cass is running from, or why. The stakes seem needlessly high for characters who are on the run because of an unfounded hunch on Cassidy’s part.

I'm of the mind that a story shouldn't be bogged down by too many branches off the main plot. This story reads more like a collection of loosely connected short stories sprinkled with unnecessary scenes. For example, I read a short chapter which depicted an autistic boy unbeknownst to to him, acting as carrier for a shady mail delivery service. Unless this boy shows up again, this deviation could've been cut out.

I wouldn't exactly call this a thriller. Not with all the scenes that seemingly add nothing to the story. I feel like the author has tried to do too much and now we are meandering with very little conflict driving the plot.

Sowell drops the mic on dismissing the argument that genetics or discrimination account for the disparity of success, not just on the USA, but globally. Chapter 1 posits a host of examples highlighting the complex factors that account for disparity in agriculture, economy, and technology all related to region, amongst other factors. It’s a heavy book. My goal is ten pages a day.

Not sure how I feel about this one yet...

It seems to be setting itself up for a major conflict between the two characters who are being developed: the victim of a terrorist attack and a would be recruit to a terrorist organization.

This book is AMAZING!!! It’s exactly what a multilayered plotline should have. Oh, man, I have a lot to learn when it comes to a crafting such a detailed story.

Woah... this story is an emotional whirlwind. On the one hand, I don’t want to finish this story because these characters have become my friends. In the other, I do want to finish this story so I can spend them time writing about it.

I just started listening to this book in my long car ride to and from work which is a total time of two and a half hours round trip. I think Cooper’s writing style is like that of Dumas and Melville — their stories often get lost in their description. But, I wouldn’t say, at this point, that it’s a killer for me. Though, I wouldn’t sit and read these for pleasure either.
