i’m finishing this book today but i wanted to comment on something. tjr’s books feel like morals wrapped thinly around a person and story. you don’t get a full picture of their lives, just the bits that contribute to the message. very few scenes of vanessa and joan, just the ones about loving forever and choosing the hard life

i’ve been reading steadily, was at pg 128 on monday and 96 on saturday. the story is picking up, the lesbians are together and it’s good. i was starting to get anxious so i read ahead. the child is saved from barbara thank god. and it was looking like bury your gays for a second there so im happy it’s not. totally spoiled the end but i needed happiness lol

lots of redundancies in the plot as well as tell not show that does somewhat align with the original book but here it goes on and on, probably because this book is double the length of the first despite no plot deviations. also there’s more characters to flesh out her world but now the relationships and plot points don’t seem to make sense together

the culture stuff makes the limitations of the plot (since it uses social norms from 200 years ago) work which is cool. though, this book VERY closely follows Persuasion which is probably not for the best considering how slow that book is. also this is a very tell not show narrative but the author is primarily a lawyer so this makes sense

hit my page requirement. starting to feel less like propaganda. book is still intriguing to me but it never really picked up pace. either way, i’m happy i’ll be done so cause this was due two days ago

just started. hate the writing

bestie i fought to hit my reading goal for this book today but missed my other one. this book is more interesting than i expected but it’s starting to feel like christian anti abortion propaganda. not entirely b/c it feels true to the characters but it’s grating. africans 😕

on page 38 of 326; interesting writing style i noticed: there’s 2 main povs but simone’s is shorter and 3 person (and also sometimes splits into another pov for a chapter). remy’s is first person and never splits. remy is a writer. feels connected to the author. hm. anyway, maybe this will inspire me to make friends?

reading an ebook so i get my percentage that way. slow going. was nervous i would struggle because this was a sequel but it seems like the first one was just a romance and this one is about a mystery so they’re different enough to be okay

this book is more technical than i was expecting. also i think i dislike TJR’s writing style. very basic and straightforward in a way that makes me feel 12. i guess she has good ideas though

had an assignment due today and was so busy that i couldn’t read more. i really felt like i could’ve finished but at least less than 100 left. i’m not sure about these characterizations. definitely something being said about men’s desires and how parents can create unhealthy desires for their kids but beyond that… kinda meh

the writing style is very basic so it reads quickly. can’t get a sense of the tone or the message. all i know is that this character doesn’t really make sense, oscillating from too wise to teenage clingy. she doesn’t feel like a teenager. i dunno jeanette

starting to get nervous. a) because i’m getting scared this is gonna be some miller’s girl type shit which ew and b) she’s writing in the same style as her memoir, which then felt blunt for literary effect but now i’m wondering if that’s just her style. she has flashes but something is missing. i’m getting anxious…

this is interesting but a bit too literary for my taste. also something is definitely lost in translation. i’m taking a lot of notes though, good think i know about the bible lol. probably won’t be finished my monday. sigh. (my copy has 186 pages so i’m really halfway)

i’m on page 353, meaning i’m officially 200 pages further than i was two days ago (i made up those 2 pages i missed yesterday!). the story is definitely flying by now. the relationship anxiety with these 2 is annoying but makes sense considering it’s been 2 weeks. characters makes sense but prob cause delilah is the emotionally stunted one. i think B K must make her men obsessed with the lady

well, i’ve read 98 pages today (could go to 100 but im at the end of a happy chapter so). wasn’t expecting this because i didn’t read on the train this morning but the story is picking up. i can tell B K really likes Delilah because she’s getting really good character development. and her angst makes sense considering their history. not sure what the rating will be though

well, long time, no see. this book is just as laborious to read as the last b k borison but i like these characters more. my reading has definitely suffered since starting my field placement. i’ve been slowly reading and this is the second day in the last week where ive read 50 pages. on page 154/438.

just started on the train, so not much progress but i already like jackson more than the other characters from the first book (which i already knew). this is a grumpy x sunshine so i’ll probably actually enjoy this one better than the first

i don’t have an emotional attachment to these characters, probably because of the brisk writing style. i’ve also skimmed ahead and i’m not sure the ending will satisfy me. i definitely won’t cry. sigh. i really thought it was a tearjerker. maybe if i wasn’t reading so much.

i’m on page 186/369 so ~just~ over halfway. i don’t think this book will make me cry, which is sad because i’m so easy, but it does make me want to read the iliad. the writing is very staccato and the author is clearly very knowledgeable. it’s just not a style or subject i enjoy

on page 110/369 (i rounded up). this copy has 400 pages but the rest are bonus material and i’m not counting that toward my total. was surprised that achilles was the main character but that was my dumb bitchery. happy i picked up early on the gay (like page 5!). i know achilles death is gonna piss me off though

my copy has 40 less pages so i might switch to the percentage but who knows. i’m already invested so yay! would keep reading but im sleepy

on page 202/254. she’s still throwing parties but she’s given up all pretense of working for the company and just spends a bunch of money renovating her event spaces even thought they lose her money. she’s literally just a socialite, famous because of her mother. also the business were were working toward failed within a year😭

on page 147 of 254. i really dislike this woman, she seems completely unsympathetic (like, how are you gonna refuse to allow your abused daughter to get divorced when you’ve been divorced twice!). i’m convinced the author hates her and is writing a hit piece cause she’s not going out of her way to be nice to her

read 40 while waiting to get my temporary crown yesterday. we’re getting there!

there’s only 254 substantive pages (i’m not reading footnotes babe). so much dumb bitchery that i cannot condone. am finding it difficult to care about this woman and want to read her story but i will persevere! sigh

this book only has ~245 pages of reading material so this percentage isn’t exactly right. i don’t like the writing style of this at all. i’m guessing the historical record is sparse but it’s a bit confusing how she’s written this. it’s not really a narrative, it’s like spitting facts at me? but in a non compelling way? i don’t know how to explain this
