read more. am sad. unrelated to this book. reminded why i am with family so little. nothing is ever right. hard time focusing on what i was reading after plane honestly.

read ~10 pages at the airport gate and the rest on the plane. the letters make it very easy to read and the story is compelling enough but i don’t know why it’s become so big. unless there’s something absolutely devastating in the last 100 pages, i feel few emotions. interesting portrait of loneliness though

i hate that they don’t think they’re wrong, not because he did cheated first but because the situation changed and it’s true love. very hard to feel bad for them, they have no empathy. also barely discussed the prison problem. also there’s a class thing happening and i hate the the resolution is basically to stay in your lane, lest you ruin your life

using my shower break to say: i don’t think they should’ve been married cause he sucked and she didn’t really want him. and i guess she stayed because she felt bad for leaving. but bestie don’t cheat. her complaints about visiting him seem shallow and heartless. you don’t love him. let him go. get a divorce.

we are approaching pachinko levels of anger here. look, i’m a toxic bitch. i will support cheating if there’s a love story. but to put me 3 years in claiming soulmates with no background while your man is incarcerated unjustly? nah. they weren’t good married but this is honestly disgusting and disrespectful. characters can do bad things. but you have to make me care !!!

i hate roy. rot in hell, does nothing to me, love! also this is more contemporary than i was expecting. writing is in the vein of zora but yeah no. hate men like this

now with the note i was just now tried to post! : making really good progress with this one, it's easy to read. i like books with short sections in chapters, it gives my brain a break and encourages me to read more. this is kinda preachy like collected regrets of clover but the arguments are deeper and i agree. this book is perfectly good

not done for the night but need to add my thoughts. bad case of tell not show. apparently this character is cool and funny but i wouldn’t know. there is some growth and she does acknowledge her shitty behavior but it all feels so juvenile. interesting reverse conversation about not feeling trapped by labels

not sure how to feel. reads like an average love story (with the grit g to know bits) but not much romance. can’t tell if that’s honest or not observed, especially with how surface level the characters are. their conversations read very platonic. is that romance? camaraderie + attraction?

i knew when i started i would love it. time has hardly passed and im halfway through. i’ve done my usual skimming and reading the words still made me tear up. this how you do matter of fact writing. i need to read her other works. she’s another maggie.

118 pages left. wish i were reading this faster. the man is very confusing b/c he immediately (ch. 1) hates all of ruth’s enemies b/c of their “vibes” which seems like lazy writing. also feels very simplistic, very childish. not sure about this book. 3 seems too low so it’ll probably be a 4 but begrudgingly

i read a hundred pages today (was at 98, the day before at 30). slow going, i’m gonna be so behind. i was liking how light this was, the the timeline is pretty wonky and the characters are starting to annoy me with how spineless they are

we’re at 2018 now. didn’t know this move was originally written for beyonce. huh. i leave feeling hatred and immense respect for barbra so basically where i started lol. this book is very readable. i almost feel asleep earlier and still managed to read what i needed. 61 pages left!

we’re switching to percentages because i finally remembered to account for the bibliography, notes, and index in the back. i’m surprised im maintaining pace since this is nonfiction and i started a day early. barbra is so delulu it’s been very fascinating to read.

i’ve finished the first section, most of which was read yesterday. not really a poetry person but this is fucking devastating me. i get why people like him now, i just sobbed for 5 minutes at amazon orders

i’m a day ahead in this book. still poorly paced and poorly written but the tidbits are fascinating. this just stuff is sad man & this movie is shaping up to be a giant mess. it’s still the best one and she still should’ve won the oscar!

plot meanders in a non-narrative way that is confusing. he’ll mention random facts about something unrelated to “set the scene” and then circle back after i’ve forgotten where we were. also poorly written in a way that feels journalistic (just looked at his author bio, he’s a journalist lol!). but there are interesting tidbits in here and it isn’t too hard to read

not done reading but i wanted to note: many of these begin with time signifiers (it’s march; id been there three years; a few years ago) and most have some sentence remarking that the character is reflecting on this experience years later. all are reflections too. perhaps it’s a choice but it feels lazy and boring
