just read the intro, on page 6 of 145. did not realize this person is a phd and this book is very academic. in that annoying way where everything is repeated 50 million times in the name of the outline with the sections all intros must have. but i do think i’ll learn something, once the book actually starts so yay

this book was annoying me, feeling very ishiguro with its meditative tone that said literally nothing about anything, just wallows in its own observations. but i skimmed to the end twist and it’s not so pretentious. it’s just boring and basic which is only slightly better. will be ⭐️⭐️⭐️, i have 54 pages left

okay, probably not solely AI but very unoriginal. writes in that way new authors do when they’ve done to english school and don’t have a voice. it’s very annoying to read. also the mechanics of the world are annoyingly opaque yet unexplained. the one time i read a man and it’s this bad!!

i would normally not break this early but i feel i must remark: this book feels AI. there’s way too many metaphors (some kinda silly) and too many cliches. also lots of em dashes and series of threes (“week after week after wee; walkways, alleys, underpasses”). maybe it’s copy/paste b/c it’s a debut but im getting a really icky feeling

read about 70 pages the past few days. the book is still funny but i think the plot twists bother me more than i want to admit. it’s just so fanfic silly. also uses the annoying trope of miscommunication. also the political events are deeply unrealistic, even for the brits. this really is a debut.

i’m really enjoying this. it’s actually making me laugh and i like all the characters, even the annoying ones. it’s just very silly and unrealistic which i love. i’ve read ahead and some of the plots do annoy me but im into this book so much that im kinda getting over it. having an overall great time!

read a lot trying to get through it. these people all suck but i do have an affinity for fran, she’s fun and tortured. still am not finding this funny but i guess the plot is interesting? probably a 3.5, why do all the books i look forward to turn out to be so lackluster

this book is easy to read but not funny. i understand the humor is in the direct observations about the characters but im probably not old enough and not yt enough to find it compelling. at least it’s written succinctly, with frequent breaks in text which you know i love

this book is very bad and it’s not just the writing. the emotions are rationalized/therapized so she never sits in anger even though she’s learning some shitty things. let the girlie stay mad, she’s 25. also some things are under explained and some things are over explained, which is frustrating. also the stakes make no sense to me. how does joining the company save her mothers rep? sigh

hard to read cause i’m so bored . sigh. i’ll make it through but it’s a struggle even though i skimmed ahead and know the plot

could read more but i’m gonna try to go to bed now. but wow. this guy gets it. i did start to tear up when his conclusion on african american myth making was that we are allowed to dream. being black was the first marker of my identity.

on page 220 of 305. this book is introspective and says interesting things about the trans experience from an asian trans author so it is unique but it’s written in that matter of fact way (with lots of breaks) that seems to be more common now. i’m not investing. i think i like more descriptive writing, but still an easy read. probably ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

started at around page 143 today. thoughts: as a bitch with shitty periods and back issues that feel indescribable, i legitimately cannot imagine the type of pain she has experienced. i too would be a demon. jack antonoff is a piece of shit partner but are we surprised (goddamn manchild). this book is narcissistic but in the way all memoirs have to be. it is also very upsetting

i am more interested in the story though it’s very yt woman who has never struggled. there are insightful things but also i get my people say its kinda tone deaf.

virtually no progress, this book requires a bit of focus which i don’t generally have. kinda dense. hopefully i start to learn the rhythm

this book is fine though these two people need to break up already and it’s kinda upsetting me that they haven’t. it feels very juvenile not to have a serious conversation about your relationship and then mope around. let’s not waste time people. sigh. this book had so much potential!

forgot to update this last night. made it halfway through and done with childhood. stories aren’t linear in a way i’d like and the conclusions are very therapized but i guess he wants to reflect. not a hard read

read ~10 pages at the airport gate and the rest on the plane. the letters make it very easy to read and the story is compelling enough but i don’t know why it’s become so big. unless there’s something absolutely devastating in the last 100 pages, i feel few emotions. interesting portrait of loneliness though

i hate that they don’t think they’re wrong, not because he did cheated first but because the situation changed and it’s true love. very hard to feel bad for them, they have no empathy. also barely discussed the prison problem. also there’s a class thing happening and i hate the the resolution is basically to stay in your lane, lest you ruin your life

using my shower break to say: i don’t think they should’ve been married cause he sucked and she didn’t really want him. and i guess she stayed because she felt bad for leaving. but bestie don’t cheat. her complaints about visiting him seem shallow and heartless. you don’t love him. let him go. get a divorce.
