Strange story. Not really sure of the moral!

I just don't get this at all. Not sure how it is such a classic.

A sweet book

A nice idea. Quite fun.

Unsure why this is rated so highly. It started off well, but crocodiles and gorillas, really?!

Had to give an extra star because my 20m old read this about 10 times before we even left the library as she loves it so much. I think she likes how it is realistic and reflects real life. There ought to be more books about everyday things like that for little'uns.

This book could have been so much better. Really bugs me when kids' books have animals as the characters where humans would have worked so much better!

Meh. Not in the least interesting for me or Little. The zoo had tiny enclosures to boot.

The Journey is Worked Out - Dickens's death at 58. His burial.

Half Made up of Partings - Dickens becoming very unwell. His readings topped off with Nancy's murder making him even more worse for wear.

Nearly Used Up - Failing health, but nevertheless a second trip to America.

One Friend and Companion - Dickens and Ellen. The train crash.

Afterward to Failed States - More U.S. imperialism and double-standards. I do wish these articles were dated.

Imperial Grand Strategy - Brainwashed by the media and terrified by government propaganda, it's no wonder people support wars and brutality. And things seem to be getting worse rather than better.

United States - Israel - Palestine - I thought this chapter deserved more. Nothing I didn't already know and plenty to make me MAD. Unbelievable that the world is still blind to this.

Language and the Brain - How difficult it is to actually study language...and some pretty wacky ideas.

Reflections on 9-11 - Excuses and double-standards.

A World Without War - Basically. Very unlikely to be a hope for the future. Much more likely that our greed is going to promote more and more war.

An Irresistible Might - More home and family. A Tale of Two Cities and the beginning of Great Expectations.

Before Heaven and Earth - Trouble at home: Separation and gossip

Intentional Ignorance and Its Uses - How the U.S. and U.K. get involved in conflicts for 'moral' reasons while conveniently turning a blind eye to what is going on elsewhere. This supposed ignorance is also present even when money from the US in particular is being used to commit atrocities. More double standards with more recent conflicts.

New Horizons in the Study of Language and Mind - A really interesting chapter dealing with language as a concept and the similarities and differences between different languages. Would love to read lots more on this. Especially enjoyed the parts about semantics. I really don't think Nicky Morgan and he would get on well.

Introduction to the Minimalist Program - Am sure Chomsky would do terribly on the KS2 grammar test. Doesn't he realise that the names of the parts of language cannot be challenged or discussed?

Containing the Enemy: The bias of the US media when reporting (or rather, not reporting at all) the consequences of US foreign policy compared to the consequences of the interventions in other countries of foreign powers. As usual more of the unsurprising double-standards. I wish it gave the dates of the articles!
