“It sometimes happens that a woman is handsomer at twenty-nine than she was ten years before; and, generally speaking, if there has been neither ill health nor anxiety, it is a time of life at which scarcely any charm is lost."
- Persuasion

Here’s hoping Jane.

I can already tell I’m going to be incredibly annoying about this book for the foreseeable future. Buckle up buttercup!

“Why are we so hyperarticulate about our adversaries and so excruciatingly tongue-tied about our loves?”

I loved the kids in the last book and somehow this book has multiplied this love tenfold. I am once again having a fabulous time.

“Linus didn't even bother thanking him, suddenly feeling daringly vindictive. Why, he didn't even say goodbye as he left the post office. It was positively scandalous.“ same.

I’m having a fabulous time.

“Why should I believe Armand?” (510) Excellent question.

“…Count Dracula, who though he can turn himself into a bat or dematerialize at will, nevertheless crawls down the wall of his castle in the manner of a lizard apparently for fun…” (500).

“…Count Dracula, who though he can turn himself into a bat or dematerialize at will, nevertheless crawls down the wall of his castle in the manner of a lizard apparently for fun..” lol

“Thoughts are imprecise,” he said. “If I open my mind to you I cannot really control what you read there. And when I read your mind it is possible for me to misunderstand what I hear or see.”
Said the furtive, pervert daddy vampire.

“I may have a great deal of imagination, but he has almost none.”

“How do I begin? You move like the right hand of God! But for me the world, the real world in which Marius lived, is beyond reach. I never lived in it. I push against the glass. But how do I get in?”

Wow. I would really like to push Nicki off a cliff. It wouldn’t kill him, but at least it would put enough distance between us for me to not have to hear that whiny, self-aggrandizing, punk-ass bitch.

“It was horrifying. But it was also very funny” (203). Armand in a nutshell.

Girl - your hair is what freaks you out in all of this!

I knew this was coming —still so grossed out.

Lurking, unearthly presence… Armand? Is that you babes?

“I wasn’t part of the world that cringed at such things. And with a smile, I realized that I was of that dark ilk that makes others cringe” (98). Same.

“Pray for me!  I reckoned if she knowed me she'd take a job that was more nearer her size.  But I bet she done it, just the same—she was just that kind.  She had the grit to pray for Judus if she took the notion—there warn't no back-down to her, I judge.”

“What did I say?”
“That you couldn’t conceive of a life with anyone else [rip Maxwell]?”
It’s strange. I hadn’t remembered speaking them. But they felt true. “I don’t know.” I shrugged. “Is a life of friends not sufficiently rewarding?”
“It can be. But not for you.”

I swear if this slow burn doesn’t come to fruition there will be blood.

“Take the damn book” *cue “Whatta Man” by Salt-N-Pepa*

“Toby had received, though not yet digested, one of the earliest lessons of adult life: that one is never secure. At any moment one can be removed from a state of guileles serenity and lunged in its opposite, without any intermediate condition, so high about us do the waters rise of our own and other people's imperfection.”
