Just have a conversation. Don’t think to yourself “oh we should have talked about ________ when we had the chance but I never got the opportunity”. Yes you did. But to prolong the book and set up drama it doesn’t happen. Multiple times. And it’s tiring.

Two chapters in and I’m thinking man, this is soooo familiar. Turn out this is an updated version of a previously published work. That I read already. 🤷🏼‍♂️ I like H.L. day so I’ll keep reading.

This is ok. But...you know how when you go to, like, Scotland, and they're speaking English and you, of course, speak English but you still have a hard time comprehending what's being said? I'm feeling a little adrift here. Sometimes in a conversation it's like so much is being left UNsaid yet understood by the people talking and I'm just as dense as a brick.

So far at 14% I'm enjoying it. One quick niggle, though. The book takes place in 1905 yet Phillip makes reference to King George. In 1905 it was King Edward VII and his son wouldn't become George V until 1910. For a history geek that was like a record scratch. But really not a big deal ;)

Sometimes it pays to spend a bit more money. I just bought some cheap towels. These towels look nice but they are not very good at "absorbing water" or "drying me off." That's like having a car that's not good at "going." If the upper part of my leg is damp and I start drying myself, the bottom half will soon be soaked. These towels just move the water. Is it really that hard to make good towels? Stupid sweatshops.

I got the worst fortune from a fortune cookie today - "You would make a good lawyer." OK, I would not make a good lawyer because I am terrible in arguments. I am not a quick thinker. I say stupid crap then have to dig my way out. But when I think about it later, I am very good at making a clear and rational argument. Not good for a lawyer, because by that time, my client will be getting raped in the prison shower.
