Where do I start? There are so many pages of this book that speak directly to my own experience of an abusive relationship. The extent to which she describes the emotional cruelties, the game-playing, the irrational and unpredictable mood swings of her (then) partner, at times, parallel years of my marriage.

Her writing is utterly gorgeous. The concept of memoir footnoted with motifs from folk lit is brilliant.

Started two nights ago. Can't put it down to the point I purchased a new clip-on reading light. If you were raised by a narcissistic mother, this book might speak to you. I was, and it does. This memoir is also about childhood sexual, incestuous abuse. While it wasn't incest, I experienced sexual abuse as a very young child. My mother never believed me. There is healing in reading Davis' words.

Absolutely fascinating.

Any book that takes my brain right to seeing the story on the mind's movie screen is a winner with me. And this does. Exactly the sort of thing I need right now.
