This is interesting at times but often repetitive and hard to picture the strange creatures its describing. I will stick with it but I am also reading a 672 page dense fantasy novel that is somehow easier to progress through than this.

I’m going to give up on this. I’m at page 164 and just so bored. It’s like a series of factoids held together in a loose narrative. I’d stick with it if it were more engaging. It’s also amusing how the author drops in a reference to COVID-19 now and then as though he edited those in as current events were unfolding. And as the last couple years have been a lot, he’s just not current enough.

This book is very long. Bar scan works on my iPhone. Pretty neat.
