This is very run-of-the-mill. I have no idea why this has so much buzz. It just sounds like someone who loves architecture and religion. Wanted to make millions of dollars by turning his hobby into a novel. Otherwise it just seems like a pretty route mystery story. The characters are good! The dialogue is good! I don’t think anything unique is happening here.

This collection is AWESOME!!! While there have been a few misses, I’ve discovered three new authors I’m really excited about - their contributions here are stellar. Full review coming, this is a big book 😅

I usually HATE short story collections — this is different. I think maybe it’s because King’s world is so fleshed out (The Stand is a masterpiece) that the short stories can be uniquely focused.

There’s no doubt that this book is the size of an encyclopedia. It is roughly the size of five large novels.

I’m happy to say it reads almost exactly like a novel. Ron Chernow is a champion - I’m not sure that any other biographer rights such interesting and story driven biographies.

Long, amazing. At no point does this 1000 page biography become dry. I believe wholeheartedly that Ron Chernow is the best living biographer.

Amazing, Chernow is the greatest modern biographer. His (extremely large) works are all near 1,000 pages and contain > 400k words - 4 or 5 times the length of modern novels.
