i’m kinda reading this book as a guide for not what to do in a marriage - very sorry to belle burden for using her misfortune as my anti-guide. it’s strange because i’ve always been someone that wants to live lavish gorgeous lifestyles like the coastal elite she describes in this memoir but every sentence she writes sounds so… privileged? blind? naive? her kids going to an expensive country club etc idk

her talking about her career (or lack thereof post motherhood) the prenup and just her life makes me so anxious. PLEASE do not let your husband talk you into fucking garbage prenups holy shit

i sometimes think the lavishness and the like. just very upper class lifestyle that she describes makes me feel really distant and far away from her problems and makes it hard for me to empathize with her

book comes out swinging and i kept gasping w every new piece of information. horror story

once again very ya and heavy handed conversations. i do think it’s an interesting perspective to bring up that jay in this case is “a colonizer” coming into the philippines with his western perspective and trying to apply it to the political world of the philippines. the random love story thread is kinda irritating

so it’s kinda obvious that certain characters exist to push the plot along in a pretty heavy handed manner, that mainly being mia who can both speak tagalog and also just have investigative journalism knowledge. but also it’s a ya novel so i get the heavy handedness. my only other comment is that it’s so frustrating that grace and jay don’t talk about jun like it’s right there !!!

main character is stressing me out so bad. i also didn’t realize this was a ya novel so ill chill on the criticism since its meant for a younger audience. it is really refreshing though to see so many references to being pinoy and manila and the philippines

a little heavy handed in the messaging but maybe they’re just 17

crazy to watch this sixteen year old get radicalized by his gf

book felt weaker the moment the squid revealed the whole plot of the book… it was just moreso annoying waiting for all the pieces to fit into place

ok he has grown on me and i find their relationship endearing
