Karina is on page 48 of 319 of Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones
Got this on a whim from the list of books in the Goodreads reading contest, and it’s surprisingly good. Takeaways: tiny habits compound over time, though you can’t see the results immediately. Focus on changing your identity, the way you think about yourself, and habits will follow.

Cardinal Becciu (…) approached me: “The pope must make a toast…” All right; I smiled and raised my glads: “May God forgive you!” I said.

Another unexpected funny saying, this time from an atheist: “You can say what you like about God and the priests, but don’t ever insult Holy Mary and the nuns!”

Every once in a while he says something funny unexpectedly. He was working in a lab: “We did trials to determine the nutritional value of food and organoleptic examinations; I remember we once had to analyze the rancidity of chocolate, and between one test and another, I confess I ate quite a lot.”

Karina is on page 320 of 472 of The Three-Body Problem (Remembrance of Earth’s Past, #1)
There’s a really glaring mathematical error: the Three-body game claims the Trisolaran fleet can reach one tenth of the speed of light, and they are going to the star 4 light years away. Then roughly speaking (depending on how fast they can accelerate to one tenth of the speed of light and decelerate at the end) it should take a bit over 40 years. But in the book it’s 450 years as if their speed is one hundredth!

Story about a kitten who runs away into the forest and becomes a wild cat. It was recommended in a “Reading to our children” group, as a mom loved reading this herself. Interesting but I’m not sure yet.

It’s slow and choppy. Just as it gets interesting, it’s interrupted and the point of view switched to a different character. Ugh.

I haven’t reviewed this so thought that I didn’t read it but it rings a bell every now and then. Hmm. I like the Sanya character-he talks in these “clipped sentences” that sound clipped in English but that’s how Russians talk! If he used all the pronouns in Russian, it would sound unnatural, stilted and just weird. Now that I’m teaching my son I think about the differences in language and culture.

The monolith is in orbit around Io, not on the surface of a satellite of Saturn; another discrepancy/movie adjustment.

“Don’t go chasing off after the ship’s cat”-a few months ago I would have missed the reference to Alien.

This book breaks continuity with the first. When it recaps what happened before, it follows the movie story line rather than the book. I dislike that. The book story was better, made more sense.

This looks intimidating - 500 pages about breastfeeding! Someone sent this book to us (no note included to indicate who). But it did have an idea about an issue I’m having — too much milk! The baby gets upset when trying to feed because it’s flowing too quick.

Loving this book. Probably even more than the first! I knew Dewey but I didn’t have a close connection not like the author and the other library patrons whose stories she tells. I still have the Spencer library card though along with a funny bookmark “Basic Rules for Cats Who Have a Library to Run”.

This book is good! Most of this isn't anything I didn't already know, it's just putting these things into practice! And the stories the author tells are so touching and inspiring.

This section about visions -- it makes a lot of sense to me. I don't want visions. And when I tried reading St Faustina's diary who experienced visions, I couldn't relate!

The novitiate which she barely written about in the Story of a Soul... these letters give more insight on how difficult the father's illness was on her and the rest of the sisters. // LT92 to Marie Guerine is beautiful, advising on the reception of Communion when Marie felt she'd be committing sacrilege.

Joke about beef took me forever to understand, but eventually it's mentioned that this is Indian food. I didn't even get that in English. Another little bit was omitted - I'm seeing a pattern, but honestly these bits add realism and humour to the story. Stories where no one ever needs to go to restroom are so unreal.

I.e. when Olga teaches Anton to put lipstick on, in Russian there's more dialogue -- if the body switch happened a week later Olga comments she'd have to teach him something else. He responds he knows it all from commercial ads (which is wrong!)

Some things don't translate, like "Шутите, парниша!" Which is recognizable phrase in Russian, but in translation I couldn't figure out what Anton was reacting to. Some things may have been deliberately mistranslated, like the conversation between Anton and Kostya: "Did you listen to them all? Did you copy any?" - "No..." (in orig. "copy all?" - "yes...") And there're bits completely omitted - no equivalent I guess?

Reading this in Russian has a completely different feel, although translation wasn't bad... But the English lyrics are completely mangled!! "jeef no pain" (for "feel no pain") and "feel no hurl, there's noting gamed" (feel no hurt, there's nothing gained).

After seeing some reviews - saying he cheated on his goal of 1,001 words per story by having the lengthy footnotes), I wanted to count the words to check whether footnotes are indeed over the specified 1,001 words, or included in it as I was expecting. But I can't be bugged to do it. So boring to count!
