On page 40 and absolutely no mention of the biggest genre-series moneymaker yet, the mystery? Hmm.

Decided not to finish. I'm just learning Tarot cards right now. I don't have it in me to learn All. Those. Charts. for Astrology, too. Maybe in a year or so.

I don't know. More than halfway through this book and the main storyline-- a couple stuck in a haunted/evil smart house alone-- hasnt happened yet. Every "The Shining" cliche is in there (bad dad issues, falling off wagon, rocky marriage, flailing career, creepy twins w/ powers)-- except for being left in the house! I feel like this story is still in set-up mode without much book left. And the cast is too crowded.

I love Trollope, and the whole cast of Barchester, but I think 1,000 pages may be pushing it. If I read for the 500th time about the populations consensus on Crawley being a thief (the good -read non-Mrs-Proudie- ladies think he is innocent; and their men hold their tongues because of the good ladies, so essentiallythey agree) I am going to throw the book across the room. Just get to the damn trial already!

Mrs Proudie is a woman born in the wrong time period. She should have been the CEO of a corporation, or the lead attorney for a soulless oil company instead of having to be the power behind a bishop husband. I can just imagine how much fun she would have (& how effective she would be) trying to make sure her oil clients wouldn't have to pay out or accept responsibility for a catastrophic oil spill they caused.

I'm thinking a companion dvd or video to this book would be hugely beneficial--because as clear as the pictures and drawings are, some moves and instructions just aren't translating for me on the page. Like grounding down your hips in opposite directions without moving your feet. HUH?Otherwise, I like this book. I just wish I had discovered it when it first came out. Maybe my hip/knee wouldnt be so out of whack now.

This may be the first time I've read something and halfway through the only thing I can think of is how much I dislike the author. Like, on a personal level. Dichotomous thinking is wrong, she writes, but, also, her way is the ONLY way to do this correctly. And what the hell is her deal with housework? I am just trying to get through the time management chapters at this point, the stuff I most need help with.

This is my 4th Trollope novel (been reading the whole Barchester series in order); is this a new kind of Trollope hero? Robart so far seems like kind of a tool, a man of ambition more than willing to let his wife fight his fights w his employer back home at the same time rationaling that the "little lady" doesnt need to know how much he hobnobs w some shady characters who have power that he would like some of.

Gone are the constant CofE church politics in the rural countryside of previous Barset novels; here there be a young hero who lures out of doors and beats the crap out the cad who jilted his sister with a whip.

I love it. I love it!

As a fellow artistic person I am second-hand so angry at these stupid sycophantic book club a-holes. They must be the main antagonists in this novel. I think there is a monster/are monsters in this, but I've made an executive decision that the Ink Drippers (ugh) are the worst. You don't call a person's art a "hobby". You just don't. Unless you're evil.

This story has clearly been designed to test my claustrophobia. I mean, it is a scary story, so, good! But oof, I can tell I am going to have to set it down every once in a while when it gets to be too much. (Which is really the best compliment for a horror novel, I think, so you're welcome.)

The puppy Adele that the author and its owners mostly ignore doesn't notice any of the thumping or hidden wife upstairs? Uh huh.

Ehhhhhh... they all definitely have the same names as characters in Bronte's Jane Eyre, I'll give the book that. I'm not sure I have much more of Hustler "Jane" wanting to be accepted by the other Stepford Wives left in me. Boring.

Why the HELL wouldn't she go to a damn hospital for a HEAD injury that is still obviously there a month out from an attack? Not going to the police-while depressing- is understandable, but you've obviously got brain damage and you have a seven-figure book deal on the line that you can't write... BECAUSE YOU HAVE A BRAIN INJURY!! Go to the hospital, tell them you fell, stupid.

Nope nope nope. I call bullshit. There is NO way Churchill, after spending the entire previous 300 pages being the king of the pompous snobs (basically every single JA character), a lazy magistrate, convinced the killer was either a gypsy or a servant before, is now convinced it is a 17 year old girl of "good birth" at the drop of a hat. There is just no way.

OMG if there are any more "I can't stay here, I'm putting everyone in danger!" "*I* want you here!" arguments, I'll throw this book. Really not impressed so far.

My gods, Danika wasn't just completely using Bryce, she now seems to have actively despised her as well. She kept literally *everything* from her. And drunkard, skanky Bryce never noticed a goddamn thing about this "best friend" of hers. I cannot see how these 2 possibly lived together. These characters are ridiculous, even by SJM standards, holy crap.

Ugh, we're still talking about Danika? It turns out Bryce didn't actually know *anything* about this supposed bff of hers, and thats just fine w Bryce I guess. And also she could have apparently single-handed solved all the problems in this series herself instead of hiding all these dumb clues and breadcrumbs for her idiot alcoholic friend Bryce to go after. Slogging thru this bloated book so far, I wish she had.

OK, constant reflection on what the female lead looks like (while barely anything about the male, who is an attractive tv star whose job is arguably partly about his looks) and at this point all I can now picture her as is Danny Devito as the Penguin in Batman Returns. Seriously, a beak nose, short with a very round body, skinny limbs?? That is the Penguin!!! I can't unsee it (or his digging into the raw fish).

Shouldn't Stella be on parole, since she was released from prison before her sentence is up? Isn't alcohol a big no-no for parolees? She drank Aiden's bourbon, now she is at a bar with her new colleagues. Hell, would she even be allowed to leave Pennsylvania or wherever it was her parents live? Crap, this is all going to seriously bother me while reading now.

An incredible history book.

It still bothers me - that the MC gets her first period, doesnt seem to have any emotional or physical symptoms besides the 1st shock at finding out about it and, 2 scenes later is being taught to swim in a lake by the older boy she likes, presumably while still on her 1st period, maybe even still on the 1st day?? That more than anything reminds me there is a dude behind this novel, LOL.
