This is almost cartoonishly poorly-written and childish so I am probably not gonna make it far

absolutely no memory of putting this on hold. apparently it's pretty popular on tiktok?? so far deeply silly setting/plot, I don't understand how so many ostensibly adult dystopian novels have a significantly more childish/simplistic worldview and "world building" than, like, the hunger games.

this book is fine but it is so, so, so slowly-paced. 200+ pages in and I feel like the plot has just barely started. Also weirded out that the characters, who are living the legend of the children of lir, are aware of "the legend of the children of lir" and reference it/them by name. like if the characters in ACOTAR went "wow, this is really a disney's beauty and the beast situation, is it not?" or something.

basically confirming my initial impression (from reading this a few years ago) that this is a very charming normal historical romance with a mystery side plot grafted onto a completely bonkers infinitely stupid/funny James Bond/indiana jones camp ass sci fi jawn. it's like how you get to book five or six of Burning Cove and suddenly there are psychics. Jayne what are you ON.

well I like ardee. Sure hope nothing horribly gruesome happens to her. or, even worse: that she's an incidental character who vanishes for the next 80% of this book

this book is very silly but I like how horrible everyone is. also it's brave for Gillian Flynn to write the truth about Missouri everyone else refuses to acknowledge (it's the worst.)

this book is EXTRAORDINARILY stupid. but the audiobook narrators are good so it's good brain filler while I do dishes.

this book is actually great because i can literally zone out for entire paragraphs and not miss anything because every single plot beat is so predictable. i feel like i wrote this when i was 9 and then forgot about it.

this book is dumb as shit but the audio is pretty good background noise for doing dishes

I first read this book when I was 10, and I hated it. Now I’m reading it again at 31, and it actually sucks even more. Send me money on Venmo to fund my project to go back to 1700 and prevent this book from ever being written.

halfway through this book and with 0 prior warning we get psychic ninja magic mind powers and then like fifty pages after that the mmc makes a rock glow by waving his hand at it. none of this is explained or mentioned again. does laura Kinsale think psychic ninja magic powers are real??

cool cover. Unfortunately this book reads like it’s for middle schoolers (even though I know the author is known for Xtreem horror) with lots of bad grammar and very simple diction and I probably am not gonna stick it out much longer.
