basically confirming my initial impression (from reading this a few years ago) that this is a very charming normal historical romance with a mystery side plot grafted onto a completely bonkers infinitely stupid/funny James Bond/indiana jones camp ass sci fi jawn. it's like how you get to book five or six of Burning Cove and suddenly there are psychics. Jayne what are you ON.
