Going to try to give this another try and pay better attention.

“Words didn’t have power, right? They were just words strung together in sentences – big scary sentences – that had me shaking.” Horrible way to start a chapter. This book is painfully stupid.

This book feels an eternity long and I’m not even 10% in…. Ughhhh

Hilariously awful! I’m very entertained but it’s super edgy, poorly plotted, poorly written, Mina sucks, and legitimately cringe worthy. Thus far it’s definitely going into the so bad it’s good.

This is legitimately the worst book I’ve ever read and it’s not even a quarter of the way though! I don’t think I can finish it! I don’t understand how a book can be so exhausting and atrocious, life sapping, drivel. I hate not finishing books but I don’t know if I have the stamina… or will power.

Shame, this book started out strong but ever since the portal my interest has been declining for various reasons. One, not enough true conflict, there’s too much aimless meandering and a lot of ‘fat’ that could have been trimmed. Two, I like my vampires more traditionally grounded – I want my vampires to be vampires, not wizards or aliens with vampire elements… this checks both those unwanted boxes. 😒

This book is so freaking boring…. Of all things I didn’t expect that to be my main complaint.

This has taken a different turn than I hoped… I didn’t realize these vampires weren’t really… “earth realm” creatures? I liked the quirky humor and modern setting. Ah well, still not bad as far as story goes.

Ok wow… that first chapter was 🔥 I’m genuinely impressed!

All I’m saying is there are better ways of conveying unconventional beauty or being surprised that you’re attracted to someone that doesn’t fit your typical go to features. Saying “I’ve seen more attractive woman.”or “She wasn’t beautiful.” or “She wasn’t as stunning as her sister.” Are rude, big fail statements. Wtf?!

I get that the author is trying to leave out the cliche where everyone is *really really ridiculously good looking* but 1. they’re vampires: it’s kind of universal cannon at this point that they are ridiculously attractive to lure in their prey. And 2. They’re soulmates! Beauty is subjective and I argue that you should be the most attractive person in the world to your SOULMATE. (Rant continues)

The way this jumps in is very abrupt. I don’t know if I like it.

The exposition dumps are killing me…

The writing in this book is driving me crazy.

“The taste in my mouth was unlike anything I have ever tasted.”

The sentence I just read was unlike anything I’ve read….🙃

“… I have always been freakishly smart…” Alright, calm down miss CSI

There’s potential here with many instances of this book. Just little glimmers of something compelling but then it’s smothered out by dull uninspired dialog and the “And then” writing format. So far this book is a decent idea with no flair or enticing execution.

Isn’t Alexis a book nerd? Why is she saying things like “…use my science knowledge to uncover evidence at a crime scene.” Rather than just say forensics investigator… the author also has her say “… got to go on a walk through with some real CSI’s…” that’s odd and doesn’t sound natural abbreviated in this context. The writing is presented more juvenile than YA.
