The male narrators female voices are particularly bad and I am constantly laughing over my laundry. I love that.

"She looked just like a marshmallow, but in a sexy way." YES!!! That is the kind of ridiculous description I require in my light holiday reads.

I really don't like the narrator and I think that's impacting how well I like the book

I'm not much of a DNF girl.....but can I really take a person seriously when they thought "soft like his penis" was good imagery (this was not in a sexual context, it was about her dying mothers nurse!)

So. Freaking. Good. I don't think there's a modern secular figure I admire quite as much as Nelson Mandela. His narration of his life story is riveting. I usually have to take my time with nonfiction, but this captures my whole attention (which is good bx it's 28 hours)

This is so hard to listen to (audio version), but the writing style and stories are entrancing. It makes me pray for improvements in Venezuela and thank Heavenly Father for the blessed life I get to live.

I have difficulty with this style, its sort of a journalistic travelogue, which I struggle with every time, he talks about his travels to east Turkestan (Xinjiang), interviews, and gives intermittent historical context, but I like his transparency and the fact he didn't take everything his interviewees said at face value and fact checked several times. Its also the only book on Uyghurs available to me.

Notes: Render unto Caesar what is Caesars... we cannot be constantly focused on only one thing, if we live life obsessed with only God we will not serve our outside purposes. If we focus only on our nation or saving a life (outside the moments those are required) we will render unto Caesar the things of God. Life requires joy and multiple pursuits, not the singular obsession over one thing.

William Neuman is an entrancing writer. His style is captivating and the tragedy of this book so far is beautifully expressed.

Interesting concept, the thesis is essentially that kids are relying on peers instead of the adults in their lives for emotional attachment and this is causing them to rely on those not fully developed for emotional and societal cues. Some of the assertions feel.bold and politically incorrect, others (like that capitalist societies lose connections) feel more progressive. I like books that can piss off both d and rs.

Business history is definitely not my Forte, but what happened under Castro was fascinating. It really drew me back to Mao and his Chinese communist revolution. Fascinating.

This has greatly improved, I'm so glad I powered through his early statements. I say skip the introduction. He does interview Israeli soldiers and settlers. In my view so many involved in the conflict don't have a complete picture, this book is one on the Palestinian side that helps build a more complete perspective. I do not like the "whatever" attitude about throwing rocks, however, I'm a Ghandi/MLK fan at heart.

I wish I had skipped the introduction. I'm not a fan of books written by journalists about their travels while trying to incorporate history, I find a lot of key history missing. The Ehrenreich also stated he doesn't want to learn the Israeli side, which pulled out a bias against him I'm trying to overcome (I strongly believe in looking at issues from all angles). We will see....

Writing my questions so I can come back to them. Its interesting he saw the worst of Israeli prisons but also Hamas and found H to be the greater threat. How would he have been treated by Israel if not an agent? Originally if not his fathers son? What would he say of his father if he didn't know him as a father? High ups in cars, kids throwing stones and molotovs. What does he think the answer should/will be?
