Bathtub book = slow, intermittent progress. Thoroughly enjoying it, though!

I have read the first several pages of this book several times, reveling in the ultra-meta approach. I've never continued past those pages until yesterday, however, not having matched mood to amount of time I sensed this book needed until that time. Right now I am . . . ambivalent. My interest was soaring at the beginning, but has gradually faded over each chapter. I expect it will ramp up again as the book wraps up.

Very absorbing so far, with respect given towards all levels and manners of faith—ranging from atheist to questioning to believing and all the levels and frames of belief.

I'm reading this kind of as a read-along with my friend's 8th-grade daughter. I asked her what she was enjoying reading right now, and this is what she recommended. I haven't spent much time on it--I'm obviously not the target audience, and find it very much a Hunger Games/Divergent rip off, and not nearly as well-written. Still, it might turn into fun fluff.

This is a library audiobook loan that I just wasn't putting in enough time on. Aafter an invigorating introduction, it kind of slogged down for the first while, thus my attention flagged, and then the loan expired! I'm back on the list, waiting for another chance to finish this book.

It happened again! Another library loan that came through at a time that didn't really fit well with me. I had just read lots of heavier topic books and wasn't in the right mood. I delayed starting it, and then it expired before I finished. I'm putting myself back on the waiting list and hoping I'm more interested next time. I do think it's a valuable addition to the nearly non-existent canon of Black history.

This book has been in my Audible library for a few years, I think. Since I accompanied a friend to meet with a cemetery director last week to arrange burial for her recently deceased husband, my interest was piqued and I put this one in the rotation. Very interesting read/listen so far!

Started off with a banger of a story! I feel like you could almost use it as a litmus test. Which character do you identify with most? Which character do you sympathize with most? The results would be telling. I was, predictably, completely undecided regarding whose side I wished to root for. The author did a wonderful job of humanizing all three. Fingers crossed for the other stories in this collection!

Holy smokes - this book has no call being as long as it is. I won it in a GR giveaway I don’t remember signing up for. The story is more drawn out than it has a right to be. Seems like it’s for people who are looking for a long, gentle-ish story to pass the time. I’ve got lots of other books waiting in the wings, however, so let’s snap to it!

Pretty darn boring, predictable, and blah so far. What is up with the thousands of readers gushing over this book? I suppose it still has time to get interesting. 🤞

Quick note--despite how it was characterized by other reviewers, I don't think the amounts of time listed at the beginning of each chapter are "countDOWNs." So far (chapter six), they're simply "counts" or even . . . "countUPs"? All seem to indicate time after a significant event. Though perhaps a future chapter will reverse this? Nonetheless, I'm enjoying the book. Very thought-provoking.

After finishing another superb WWII novel by the same author (Herman Wouk's The Caine Mutiny), I unreservedly added this series to my Audible library. I've dragged my feet on actually starting them, though because--have you checked out how long these novels are? Whew! This will certainly be a time commitment--book one is 46 hours long and book two is 56 hours long.

Aware 1st of the hype, then of the furor surrounding this book, I initially decided to read in ignorance, but haven't been able to help checking out what the big deal is. I agree with this article about the background of the writer, and that it doesn't show the typical immigrant experience, but ... did it have to to be enjoyable? https://slate.com/culture/2020/01/ame...

Just a fluffy, low-expectations read. “. . . But then who wouldn’t want to live in a house like this?” (Jane, p.18) Almost everyone, I think, Jane. Sane people with common sense and instincts. It’ll be interesting, I hope, watching the inevitable untenable situation spiral out of control.

I’m only on page 5 (plus the vii-page introduction!) but I’m already LOVING this book. I should not be starting yet another read when I’m in the middle of so many other good books, but when I looked at my nightstand last night at midnight, this one called to me. The Rosetta Stone quote I’d love to include here won’t fit, but it’s definitely going in my review!
