Oddly enough, I liked her dissection of body image in the fashion/jean industry better than her Caroline Calloway expose. Partially because I’ve never followed Caroline. Partially because it was just better. Like overall so far.

Lilli is finished with Big Summer
I really didn’t like this book in the beginning, then kind of liked it in the middle, was gripped at the climax, then blah at the end. Overall, a good/okay book. I would maybe recommend to others, with the note that the main character has serious body image issues she vocalizes often in a way that made me uncomfortable. This book has been recommended to me a few times, so not everyone is bothered by it, I guess.

The concept is fun, but just like the last Jennifer Weiner book I tried, there’s so much talk about weight that makes it hard to read. I think it’s supposed to be, to show how toxic voices about women, but as someone who doesn’t already have that inner-hate monologue, it’s a lot to take on.

I simply don’t like this book. The main character is a firey mess with no empathy for others. Her mother is a horrible Jewish stereotype for dramatic effect. Her boyfriend is an utter fboy loser. The guy next-door seems nice and the whole book is just poking fun at him, presumably, until she falls in love with him, but I don’t wanna wait that long listening to all these people. DNF.

Another thing I didn’t know about Gabrielle Union: she was married before. Apparently, famously. I’m really enjoying hearing her voice and learning about her life. There are some traumatic stories in here, but for the general public, I would recommend.

I picked up this book, expecting it to be one thing, and it’s surprised me. I like the jumping around of the short stories and the ability to be his topic-specific. I’m learning a lot about her. I didn’t know, including her advocacy and history as a survivor. About to get into her movie experience and I’m excited.

Lilli is finished with Phoebe Berman's Gonna Lose It
Plot was interesting. I predicted the twist from the beginning, and was actually thrown off when everyone started pretending he was going to end up with her. I’m not a huge fan of the lead character. She feels a sense of ownership over her friends and their activities I find weird. Not fantastic, not bad. Cute.

I like it so far, in terms of plot, but the main character/narrator bugs me.

Lilli is finished with The Amulet of Samarkand (Bartimaeus, #1)
I struggled with this book for the first bit. The world building was deep, but at times confusing to me. It was definitely geared towards a little boy, in terms of tone and language, in a way that I didn’t connect to. But as the story went along, it got more action, packed and detailed. I saw more into the characters. It wasn’t bad. I would be interested to see where the rest of the series takes them

In a not so shocking to no events, Ronnie ended up being a terrible person. In the book just kind of ended with not a clear resolution. The last hundred pages of this book felt like an entirely different book. I don’t know how to feel about the whole thing. I think it’s very outdated, but also has some strong feelings of friendship. I wouldn’t recommend the book, but I didn’t DNF it so 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is turning into a very different book. Mystery disappearance, possibly involved in a prostitution ring. From a story about friendship after college. Within the last 50 pages. I’m kind of baffled, but curious. Still not a great read yet. Just different.

Lilli is finished with Brag Better: Master the Art of Fearless Self-Promotion
This turned out to be actually relatively helpful book. I did skim a lot of it, because it seems to be about someone further along in their career, possibly interested in entrepreneurship or becoming a professional speaker. But, many of the messages still stands. How to install confidence and brag about yourself in a way that transfers into professional growth.

I am not sure how useful I actually find this book. It goes between long swaths of generalization text, relaying the obvious, and workbook-type questions to notate. I felt like something I had to skim and others write down, which is hard when you’re not paying much attention because the rest is fluff. I might go back to some parts and keep reading and see how it goes.

Super cute book. Reminded me a lot like the movies, but I have a feeling that as the series progresses that’s going to change, and I’m excited to see where those differences lie.

Some small deviations from the movie so far, but not many. It’s cute. Very nostalgic.
