I wish Penn really was Baseball Cap, because it would be very interesting to see how he could even have a proper redemption.
But now there is no interesting resolution. All they have to do is talk about why she couldn't find him (spoiler: because she didn't know his name and her told her not to care for him.)
How can this book still have 200 pages left?

How does Penn dare to be angry at her for not rescuing him from the police, when he refused to give her even his name?
Without a name how should she find him again? And he even acknowledges this fallacy with "I can't tell you anything to show you who I am because I never told you my name back then". But he wont connect this to the reason why she couldn't rescue him.
I'm so mad.

Lol, it's the funniest thing how she rambles on about how much she loves books because they show and not tell, other than movies, which leave nothing to the imagination. When at the beginning the book pretty much leaves nothing to the imagination itself by the info dump of the fae lore. Spoiling everything about the mystery.

Now the book finally has tension and stakes. why did it take so long for the book to get good? wasn't there a way to reveal everything earlier? make them both be suspicious and fight but still develop feelings and be torn?

you have an opponent you have to train for the challenge. And then the story doesn't develop anything further. it completely stops with this plotline for the next 75% while it drifts to other stories. And now the author finally remembered the main point of the story.

Forgot to mention how this story in my opinion is still an insta love not a slowburn despite them being romantically involved with other people for like 2/3 of the book. as soon as they reveal themselves to each other ,around the 2/3 mark they're instantly besotted with each other. so much that he immediately forgets his girlfriend.

because for most of the time we're following characters that don't even know about this game, is so unsatisfying.
Why don't make it like a mystery where they slowly uncover the truth?
Now the truth is simply handed to her just because finally the story is supposed to progress after every (not plot) point of the unnecessary characters has been told.
Please let the other characters matter in the end.

Don't act like the reveals are something exciting when you've given us nothing of substance the first 3/4 of the book. Do the other characters even matter? Will they eventually matter? withholding the nature of the challenge which is the whole point of this book. padding everything in between with slice of life events of other characters so that the question doesn't even cross the opponents minds

I still don't really understand what this book is about. What this book is aiming to be. A lot of characters are described how they are. But they don't really answer the question why are they? Why is all of this? It feels like a bunch of set ups that will hopefully come together in the end.

It's so weird how everything of interest happened in the past and the only thing that has to happen in the present is for them to finally talk. Even the thing with all the murders, which could have been the main issue to solve in the present, just fell into place the last few pages.

Wow, some pages in Dante acknowledges that they don't talk because they are too prideful. But now they both promised to finally talk to each other. And then they still don't talk, because they have to get intimate.
Infuriating.

I know both of them are way to prideful to actually talk to each other. But then please acknowledge that this is the reason why they don't resolve the whole conflict of the book with a single conversation. It is okay. I get it they are still young. Just let the characters tell us why they can't bring it over them to talk about their mistakes.

Non of the villains are threatening anymore.

Marcus almost completely stopped interacting with helena as soon as she got her own pov. In book one they had some secrets and pressure going on. But none if this is paid off here. Instead only new setups are created.

Elias mother just conveniently "spared" him with poisoning him instead of directly killing him even if she could've.

Boring. But I can't pin point what about it makes it boring.
The setup, the world building and characters are so well done but then this is what you decide on the story to be? This is what you give those characters to do and to think about?
I lost all sense of urgency.
