I'm reading too many books at once but darn it why is every book I start so boring? Holly Black is such a great author but the first 7 chapters are just flashbacks and character introductions... Where's the plot?

Sorry, was ist denn mit dem New Adult Genre passiert? Klar, die Charaktere sind 19+, aber das ist geschrieben wie ein Kinderbuch. Hoffentlich macht der Plot das noch wett, ansonsten wird das wohl ein DNF.

I'm only a few chapters in, but so far I'm not convinced. The writing style is filled with corny jokes and sarcasm, the target audience must be much younger than me. That's just not how "Dark Romantasy" as a genre is written in my opinion. Plus, so far I'm just confused and missing a LOT of information, this feels like a sequel?
