“Do not confuse guilt with conviction. Guilt is self-centered, and leads only to destructive obsession. But conviction brings balance—a sense of purpose beyond oneself.”

I was hoping this book would feel more transformational, but I don’t think I necessarily gained anything new from reading it. It is a very short book that did, however, serve to reinforce the Reader’s Workshop style of instruction that focuses on teaching students reading strategies and giving them time to practice those strategies with unfamiliar texts.

Reading this out loud to my kids is bringing back memories of my first time reading it as a kid.

This book is so sweet and 😍 although I couldn’t help reading it with a teacher’s lens, and there are a number of F-bombs thrown throughout 😬 But the story is so sweet that I’m still going to put them in my classroom library. The Netflix show is very true to the books. Love them both!

“The ocean needs all kinds of fish, just like the world needs all kinds of minds. Just one kind would be really dull, wouldn’t it?”

This book needs to be in all of the classrooms!

“It’s not my brain that makes me break down. It’s the pretending. The hiding. The way the world isn’t built for us.”

It’s about time that we start building a different kind of world that works for everyone.
