it’s time.

only read one chapter today, but it covered some familiar ground from my undergrad dissertation which was nice!

i’ve consumed a lot of taiwanese film/literature this year and i’ve been really curious to learn about its history to better understand it 🙂‍↕️

interesting choices of form! hyped for the latter half (‘I saw my book begin again.’)

the exchange between david and rainer really got to me

i decided to continue and it was decent for a spell, but it’s taken a downward turn again. i think i do want to see the rest of it out even if it’s slowly

really enjoying this but fuck man…

i’ve been a huge fan of cline’s work since 2022 (having read all of her works multiple times over), and this is really promising, albeit depressing, start! an interesting departure in terms of form, but a familiar language 🐶

i will decide in the morning if i have it in me to finish this 🥸 it’s a shame because there are periodic glimpses of a historical epic in here that are crushed by its length, time jumps and writing style (even if there are some genuinely good lines)

i’m not convinced that i’m reading the same book as everyone else…the writing is laughably bad, yet frustrating in its near-total lack of dialogue but somehow i want to keep reading. i’m getting very little sense of character or world or anything, and every sentence is overwrought and stuffed with extraneous, irrelevant detail 🥸

simultaneously making me laugh and driving me mad

this novel has quite the voice so far, very comedic! it’s getting a little denser but i’m working with it

i want to be a poetry person and if anyone could make me so it would be ben lerner (it’s working)

i paid too much money to not finish this hot mess…so cusk yet uncusk at the same time

immediate thoughts: as ever cusk is a brilliant observer of contemporary life and brings to light things i wish i could articulate, but why is every single sentence studded with similes and metaphors…it’s distracting and disconnected

slowly making my way through this, i really like the form and perspective !!! i really wanna be a heti head

i haven’t been able to stop thinking about this book since i read it back in january, and it’s only exceeding my (already high) original opinions 🙂‍↕️ i would give it six stars if i could

i’ve had this on my tbr for over three years and finally managed to get a copy in new york…this is such a hidden gem ❤️‍🔥

the goldfinch got me interested in art history, and now i have a degree in it so it’s only right that i read this🙂‍↕️

some insane things are happening, when will my boy wintrow ever catch a break !!!

still really enjoying this, just a little less than ship of magic as i find that character developments are happening a little too fast / in narrative summary…who would’ve thought that i wish a 900 page book was longer (wintrow’s perspective has taken a back seat in this one and i’m salty about it)
