kind of meh so far, but it’s still early days

an incredibly moving account so far

the goldfinch got me interested in art history, and now i have a degree in it so it’s only right that i read this🙂‍↕️

taking my time with this one 🙌

some insane things are happening, when will my boy wintrow ever catch a break !!!

still really enjoying this, just a little less than ship of magic as i find that character developments are happening a little too fast / in narrative summary…who would’ve thought that i wish a 900 page book was longer (wintrow’s perspective has taken a back seat in this one and i’m salty about it)

wildly different from my expectations but i’m enjoying it, even if the writing is a little odd

chapters 10 and 11 really stuck with me, then the powerpoint was an odd choice of form but a refreshing break that you could glide through so i’ll definitely finish this today

sort of slouching through the middle, there will be one decent chapter followed by a couple duds so it’s looking to be a three-star (which isn’t bad!)

unsure what to make of this so far since each chapter forces you to reframe your understanding of all that came before because of the switching perspectives, overall i’m enjoying it though even if it’s a little shallow

unsure what compelled me to start this, but let’s go🙂‍↕️

my heart breaks a thousandfold for wintrow, robin hobb has me crying on this bus holy fuck

malta is actually the most infuriating character in this book, but her bad decision has opened up a whole new avenue that i’m excited to see

steady progress…the last long book i read was jade legacy and that was nearly 200 pages shorter than this lol

hobb’s character work is too good…i am stressed !!!

caught up to where i left off last time, really excited for whatever comes next !!!

restarting this! i’m determined to start and finish this quicker than the farseer trilogy (three years…)

my friend has been pushing this on me for the last seven months, so it is finally time (it’s pretty mediocre: mostly summative telling, and we are so entrenched in the narrator’s retelling that i don’t get a sense of anyone’s actual character or setting)

i like the form of riley’s sentences, but i’m not convinced by their content

put catherine lacey in the ring, she could’ve written this much better

i’m really not sure what to make of this right now…a historical letter followed by seemingly meaningless conversations punctuated with disconnected metaphors etc

hm i’m not loving this nearly as much as heaven, it’s relying a lot more heavily on telling rather than showing
