Love this, though MB has a hero type that crops up a lot, the slim, strong, cynical/cold, and saturnine TDH male. My fav MB H, in Slightly Dangerous, features just such a man, and he is irresistible, as is the widow he collides with. Here, I love the storytelling as much as the story. I am charmed by the undercover wit of the heroine, 'hired' to become a disillusioned marquess' wife to spite the stuffy, bossy father.

Okay, I'm over the whole cutsey plays on reality tv shows. At least here, it's a true play on Say yes to the dress, in idea as well as word, with a young lady trying to pull the plug on an overlong engagement and derail wedding plans her fiance's rough and TDH prize-fighting brother is foisting on her. The rough&TDH is her match but must beat down his growing attraction. So far, so fun.

Wow! What an opening. The problem Major Hawkinville faces seems insurmountable: marry the scheming heiress to the fortune bequeathed out of the estate of a useless viscountcy his father borrowed heavily to obtain. He has two months to find the female, prove her duplicity and get hold of the money himself. Or he could try to marry her for the fortune.

Oh, now it's gone into ridiculous territory. Bummer. Too damn much cross dressing for my taste and it jettisons any pretension to plausibility. I'll finish but I'm not liking this nearly as much after this stupendous flub. Also the costume inconsistencies grate. (Skirt hoops are Georgian period, but menswear described such as high starched collars, cravats and trousers are Regency, what is the period, please?)

I'll be skuppered but this is very, very well written, the characters are complex and frankly unappealing in their own ways, a lot like my reaction to Cecilia Grant's characters. They seem absolutely plausible in their attitudes, even the odd cross-dressing duke is appropriately arch, critical and cruel in his sense of entitlement. But I cannot put it down, crawling skin be damned. Kudos to Ms. Cowan.

I hate the cross dressing duke, he has the personality of a spider, creepy, dark and even his thoughts condemn him as a pretentious maladjusted man in drag. BUT the it's well written. Not sure how much more I can take.

So far, so good. A tragic accident opens a yawning gap between a young man and the girl next door estate wise, his longtime friend's little sister. Meant-to-be turns to over-my-dead-body. Well written.

OMG, the stiff, icy fiancee and another lady from London are on their way to fetch back the duke who has been almost completely unraveled and undone. Any tips on how to make my eyes MOVE faster over the lines? Anyone? Anyone?

The plot thickens. Minor quibbles are increasing: paranoid as a Regency concept, typos, missing words. SIgh. But still, such darling characters and the annoying aunt and blank daughter add to the mix perfectly. It's rollicking good fun!

All I can say is there's another author as able to charm from the first page on as Tessa Dare. This is populated by misfits and seriously smart, funny characters. Wonderful fun and real vulnerabilities...loving it. Yay!

Well, the tall hero's bumped into the tall heroine and they've fallen in love at first sight. Impossible to believe. And each is devastated to lose sight of the other, after having brushed by one another on the street. Oh, really? Okay, whack-upside-the-head love is a pet peeve but its still interesting. They have equally ill-founded low opinions of one another as governess/guardian, fireworks to follow!

OMG!
it just keeps getting better, delightful cast of characters, a tall, canny governess/noblewoman making her way in the world, her charges twin spawn of the devil, several appealing men converging on the country estate where she was hired to whip the lads into shape before they left for Harrow. Love, love love this!!!!!

I am loving spending time with this crew of characters. I'm feeling impatient with Kristen, as the hero must, and wishing she'd unbend as he must, and grinding my teeth that so far she hasn't, just as he is. I like this better the more I read! Yay!

Gracefully written, the heroine's a prig but whatever. The secondary couple, the enterprising rascally gal pretending to be hero's betrothed and his cousin and cynical cavalry cousin have great, sparking chemistry developing. The writing is a pleasure.

Reading this b/c of AR's novella that I enjoyed. Very well written, slow, methodical character depiction but devolopment one-sided so far (his, not hers). He's a rake-in-luv w/widow-prissy-petticoats never never steps out of line. Her charge for the season is a rascally young girl trying to help the rakish naval Captain win the prude's heart thru jealousy. Not swept up yet but it's v. enjoyable...

Charming B. Metzger story, not the usual premise of hers, poisoning, hapless heroine and haphazard hero falling into the role. Wait, there is a hero falling into the role of trule good guy, but it's a wonderful transformation of a rake into a family man. Love it so far.

It's a murder mystery romance, but the hero and heroine have had a thing for each other long before the victim writhed to death in a tea tent. Lloyd's objectivity has been compromised by compromising her in view of a constable. He's hatched a plan and she's going to help him catch the killer. Probably as bait...a fast, fun read. Well done but as I near the end, Ian's story still stands head & shoulders above 'em all.

Cracker-jack opening and I'm loving Lloyd Fellowes the half Mackenzie just as much as my favorotie of all, Ian, so how can I not be a happy camper? The premise is terrific, the jeopardy real and dramatic, he's the right man, she's one lucky lady. JA's done it again. Happy happy jpy joy!

Amber sexes up her captor/rapist then fights back. Meoraq goes medieval on raiders asses in a black rage. Things were picking up.
But then S'kot's back, still a shit. Nicci's been all used up, still selfish. The hero's trying to keep a lid on his lust; Amber wants yet another "what're you thinking talk." Too much repetition, too much repetition, too much repitition.

The bad lizard reminds me of Javier Bardem in Skyfall...just sayin' twisty. Evil lizard has the baggage of an altar boy diddled by the parish priest, and an iffy temper. Wish Nicci were there to take the abuse instead...

So a real bad baddie, the head raider, has her. He's got with the baggage of an altar boy diddled by the parish priest and an iffy temperament. Meoraq's in pursuit but will he make it before her snotty attitude gets her fucked to death by the raiders? Why am I wondering if the other earthlings are dead or not? I wish Nicci could be taking the lumps for once...
