This author has never been to Minnesota. Shut up, we're the land of 10,000+ lakes. One star will be deducted for this insult 😂 “No, downtown Minnesota is greyish. Everything feels grey from being under snow for so many months per year. There is color and life here. Lots and lots of life,” Leta corrected."

I remember why I didn't finish this. The descriptions are so jolting and confusing and the narrator is distractingly immature. It's just weird...

" I hated referring to people of my color by flavors and food, as if that would make us more appetizing to others. However, Daniel had that cocoa brown skin..." then why in the world did you just do it then?! Hmm...

this book makes me squeal in laughter and anticipation oh my goodness. Do appreciate the smooth pacing and how it jumped into the action right away. And usually not a big fan of too many pop culture references but they're all actually relevant to me soo I'm liking it!

Well I like when my romances to swap between the guy or girl or stay primarily with the girl if it can't be both ways. This one sticks with the guy, who isn't the most interesting or charming character to follow around. He's actually a bit socially awkward and plain. Could be the writing too, which is while fast paced, clunky and dry. Idk if i'll continue..geez I don't finish anything lately.

Yikes I'm already enthralled. Magical Black girls, hot possessive men and danger. Why did I have to discover this so late at night?!

I am sooo upset. This book is so depressing at points where I want to put it down but curiousity plagues me and alas; I persist.

This protagonist is unlikable. And we're not given enough of her thoughts in-depth to learn where she is coming from. I know to an extent why she does what she does, but I don't "Feel" it. It isn't convincing me enough to understand, not even from a "I disagree but understand" viewpoint.

The story does a good deal of dig and retreat. We'll explore something but I still feel a sense of omission, but it's coming from the narrator's part, I feel? She sems to serve as this blank slate who doesn't have too many emotional reactions that we see. An event happens and we see the external reaction but not the depth of the internalized feelings. I think that's what I mean by skimming.

Freakin heart-wrenchin, part one. I am on part II which goes back to the past and fills on bg such as how lizzie's affair with her master began and the day by day

I can't even with this book right now. My interest was already declining slightly, the vaguely construed connection with the characters dying out even more, but now I'm just like uh, no. UGH. May or may not finish this. If I don't, I likely won't review. I don't even want to finish it. You know when an author has a character do something so glaringly stupid that you cannot look passed their flaw? Yeah. That.

189/277 from Nook. Still sort of interesting, a lot of plot conveniences, though. There is pretty language, however. Am I just noticing it or did it get prettier as the sensual tensions rise?

This book is so...dry. The events feel tedious, the romance is contrived (though it never felt that way in the other books of the series) and I'm simply reading because I paid for it..we'll see how it ends.

hmmm. Curiosity and a vague loyalty to the hero (note I feel little loyalty/closeness to the heroine) is what pushes me through these pages. Otherwise it's a bit awkward, a pop with a low fizzle, medicore..but you'll see all that I think in my review. Oh and it'll probably be a lengthy one ;D
