I started this book in 2018 and have no idea why I put it down. It’s so fun and cheeky and informative, looking forward to the last few chapters

I feel like it’s 2017 and I’m watching Orange Is the New Black again, but this time it’s a dead old man aggressively calling the penal system stupid in like 50 different ways instead of Piper crying about prison reform. Was NOT expecting this level of radical introspection from Tolstoy but I’m here for it

My favorite part so far is the mind loop you get stuck on trying to figure out if skepticism cancels itself out. “I don’t know anything for sure, but if I claim to not know anything for sure then how can I claim for sure that I’m sure I don’t know anything... for sure?” Good soup 👍

YouTube social commentary video essays are starting to pmo hopefully this audiobook will fill my insatiable need to listen to something at all times 🤠

The more I read the more I don’t know, and I guess that’s the point!

The cruel irony of the court room scenes is upsetting. Misogyny is so baked into all the interactions (intentionally to make a point), istg my eyes are sore from rolling back so many times lol

The way my jaw DROPPED at the audacity of this man. This is going to be an upsetting read. I want more chapters in Katyusha’s POV

Chapter 8 took me a few revisits to understand, but it was worth it (systole & diastole)

‘Superman and Me’ by Sherman Alexie. Another banger, especially if you’re interested in education liberation + the power of reading. Super short yet rich in lit tools + meaning

Started this one bcuz it was the only Anthony Briggs option in the whole store 😛

This book is everything I hoped for so far: accessible, interactive, paperback, footnotes over end notes, giant margins for personal notes. I can’t wait to read & learn more

‘After the Ball’ 😭😭😭

Revisited ‘How to Tame a Wild Tongue’ by Gloria Anzaldúa after reading it for school & randomly finding my notes on it the other day. Short and powerful essay about how language shapes/is identity. She switches between Spanish dialects & English as a tool which is so cool bc she’s putting her point to practice. Glad I still have a copy

Just finished the titular story. Going to be marinating in it for a while. How Tolstoy managed to fit *that* in 53 pages is incredible
