Ugh, I am still not over Vasya’s tenderness and innocence towards the chyerti. I love this dynamic of them being curious of her and “joining her side.” It’s so wholesome.

I’m so glad the siblings, one by one, are coming to understand there is a world that lives among them they cannot (all) see.

Say what you want about Medved, but he understands Vasya better than most people in these books and I appreciate that.

Aww, I love the idea of Marya (Olga’s daughter) going to visit her uncle Alyosha (still one of my faves) in the countryside where she’d be able to have someone understand and make space for her to learn about the different spirits that Vasya got to know growing up.

I’m so happy to be back in Vasya’s world. Picked up right where we left off which is great because I forgot a couple of details.

Aside from Darrow, my current favorites are: Mustang (duh), Pax, and Sevro. Thems my dudes.

I had to place another hold on this book and wait before getting it again. But MAN! Darrow… have I mentioned the man that you are?

A theory just for funsies:
Killian is a Siphon who has messed with the King’s mind and everyone in court. He’s behind the children’s captures and wants Meryn to kill the king so he can take the throne. He’s probably the son of the Siphon king (or somehow related) and that’s why Meryn thought the king looked familiar.

I should have said this since Saela was taken, but “Lee” is so freaking shady. I’ve been skipping all of their “sexy” parts because I just felt like he was sketchy. At this point now, I’m so freaking certain he’s behind a lot of the drama.

Like, yes, that is a common trait written in books. But I can FEEL that he means it with every part of his existence and that is what makes this amazing writing and him an amazing character.

Okay the Vazila, the Rusalka. I love these sprites that Vasya is interacting with and learning things from (speaking to horses from the Vazila and swimming and climbing trees swiftly from the Rusalka). Clearly they are raising her more than Anna is and it’s very sweet. The Vazila enjoying Vasya’s steadiness and the Rusalka enjoying her child-like wonder are also adorable points. I hope this theme continues!
