Okay the Vazila, the Rusalka. I love these sprites that Vasya is interacting with and learning things from (speaking to horses from the Vazila and swimming and climbing trees swiftly from the Rusalka). Clearly they are raising her more than Anna is and it’s very sweet. The Vazila enjoying Vasya’s steadiness and the Rusalka enjoying her child-like wonder are also adorable points. I hope this theme continues!

Placing a hold at my library for the next book now

Man, this guy not only strongly dislikes the female sex, he’s also insanely paranoid. But I’ll probably soon find out that he is justified, at least in one of those qualities.

It is weird that I’m getting total Tangled (the movie) vibes from this book? A girl’s first time in the real world, her weapon being a heavy but blunt object she can wield with deadly accuracy, an endearing little companion, and - most importantly - the lack of shoes.
