Great idea for a novel. I'm about 15% through. Theroux's Orwell is shy and bad tempered. The descriptions of Burma very good so far. Theroux says even through he's over 80 now, Burma Sahib is as good as anything he's written.

The beer was too cold. Nabby Adams was used to the exiguous amenities of oillamp-lighted drinking-shops, and had, during twenty-odd years in the East,developed a taste for warm beer. A liking for iced beer was effeminate, decadent and American.
