Burma Sahib
Great idea for novel. Just out now in Feb 2024. Theroux's Orwell is shy and bad tempered. Good descriptions of Burma. Theroux says it's as good as anything he's written, and remember he's over 80 now.

Great idea for a novel. I'm about 15% through. Theroux's Orwell is shy and bad tempered. The descriptions of Burma very good so far. Theroux says even through he's over 80 now, Burma Sahib is as good as anything he's written.

"Why had he had to report to them? Their illiteracy had nothing to do with their working-class origins; his own father and grandfather had been miners, as was his brother. Sometimes he had wondered whether this ignorance of theirs was in fact their greatest strength, whether his own correct speech and interest in books was really a weakness."
