Starts off slow recapping a lot of basic concepts that are already well covered in other layperson books on physics. The narrative gets more interesting beginning in chapter 4 where the author begins to describe the connections between physical laws governing matter and how life functions. The description of how a living cell functions at a micro-physical and chemical level is fascinating.

I love this book. It provides just enough perspective and the most simple to understand terms. It's worth reading once every few years as a reminder of the importance of living a simple life.
