Another letter from Aaron is slipped under Nora’s back door, she decides to call outta work & fly to Oregon to visit him in jail. She demands he tell her how he was able to get those letters to her house & kill those girls…he tells her he thought she did it!

On her way home from the airport, Nora notices a terrible rotting smell coming from the trunk…it’s a severed hand! She puts it in a plastic bag & throws it in a random dumpster 20 mins away.

Nora runs into her old patient, Henry, from the beginning of the book- the creepy guy who was following her in his car. He apologizes for his behavior the night at the bar, she asks how he’s doing after the crash. We find out he drives a different car than the one that was following her. She looks in the hospital database & finds out the man from the crash is still in the ICU, very low chance of survival. She decides to go see who it is but doesn’t know him.

Nora sets up a home security camera system, they’re supposed to send people out to install it that night. When she arrives home to meet them she sees she was sent an email confirming her appointment was rescheduled, now she’s like who tf changed my appointment.
She goes over to spend the night at Brady’s cause she’s scarred to stay at home, when she gets there his landlord is out front screaming at her niece abt how Brady is hurting people in his apartment & she can hear their screams. Her niece explains to Nora that she’s got dementia, don’t worry lol Nora says it’s probably just his daughter making noise when she visits- they tell her Brady doesn’t have a daughter…Now everything is making sense to Nora, she thinks Brady is behind all this.

She goes home to pack a bag, gonna stay at a hotel for the night. Looks Brady up on facebook- he does have a daughter- old lady is crazy lol! Now she’s thinking Philip, her coworker, could have rescheduled her appointment, starts thinking he’s the one behind everything.
Phillip has always hit on Harper, Nora is very protective w her & has always been against Phillip flirting w her. Now she’s afraid Phillip is killing her cause they’re out on a date, neither of them answering the phone.

She hears noises from the basement, thinks it’s the stray cat she feeds- it recently got inside the house & nora can’t get it out lol she put the cat in the basement while she went to work, assuming it’s just the cat down there…
When she goes down she sees someone tied to the woodwork under the staircase…it’s Phillip! Harper is down there too, pointing a gun at Nora! Phillip has his hand chopped off!

Turns out when Nora’s parents got arrested , her mom was pregnant…she killed herself cause she didn’t wanna bring anymore of Aaron’s spawns into the world but unfortunately the baby survived- Harper.
Their grandmom refused to raise her so she was put up for adoption, eventually found out who her birth parents were, sought out their dad, visited him. They’re both very similar, he told her abt how Nora snitched on him, now Harper hates her & wants revenge for their dad.
She got a job working w Nora, stole her spare car & house keys out of her work desk. She’s been the one sneaking into her house planting shit, committing the crimes in her basement when she’s not home!

Also her boyfriend is the dude in the ICU, Henry. Harper had him follow Nora to distract her so she could sneak in her house. She’s pissed that her boyfriend is in the icu now cause of Nora.

Past: Nora saw the girl that was in the cage in the basement was on the news as a missing person, felt terrible, stopped bullying Marjorie & snitched on her dad in an attempt to save the girl but was too late, he already killed her by the time he was caught.

Present: the cat attacks Harper lol Nora tries fighting the gun away from her. Brady shows up! Harper plays victim & tries acting like Nora did all this, Brady grabs the gun & tells them not to move, that the police are on the way. Nora passes out cause Harper drugged her food, she tries telling Brady that Harper did all this.

Nora wakes up in the hospital, Brady in the waiting room. Harper was arrested, after Phillip woke up he told police Nora was innocent & Harper did it all.

A year later Brady & Nora are engaged, Harper pleaded guilty to her crimes, is pretty proud of herself lol.
We get a final chapter from Harper- she reveals that Nora is totally like her & their dad- Harper overheard Nora give a woman a syringe & tell her to administer it to her abusive husband to escape their abuse, killing him.
