Slow progress, largely due to a very busy life. I'm enjoying the book, though, and look forward to future volumes. The amount of detail is amazing and Dunnett is an excellent writer.

On the surface, Claes is a simple, pleasure-seeking oaf with a gift for getting into trouble. However, Marian de Charetty sees his potential and things are about to change for the young man. This book is really a great deal of fun. The amount of detail in Dunnett's book is amazing.

This is a book that I've been wanting to read for some time. This is a fascinating, detailed tale of the rise of Claes vander Poele from a dyer's apprentice to the head of a mercantile empire. Dunnett makes the period come to life. This is no historical romance novel. Very entertaining. The print's rather small and the text dense, so 25 pages is more like 40-50 pages. However, it is easy to read.
