The conflict in this is fabricated in each of the MC’s minds and would be solved with a five minute conversation. This premise always sucks because there isn’t enough meat to carry a plot.

She tells him she isn’t ready for dating but he pushes it with her and now he’s realizing she isn’t ready for dating and is going to pull back? Nice guy.
Authors set up these conflicts and expect us to like their hero afterwards. Nope. Sorry Bud, get lost.

A seventh grader can’t skip school without everyone being alerted. My kid was in school and miscounted once and I got a text, an email and a phone call and so did my husband. The alarm was raised until she was found in her seat in class.

This feels nostalgic to cheesy 1990s Harlequins, mainly because it is a cheesy 1990s Harlequin that the author is reissuing. She says she updated it but people are using cameras and talking about brochures when today people would have cell phones and talk about social media campaigns.
Get back in there and do some more updating CJ 🤣. Also being a career woman is not a rare thing in 2025.

I know it’s a pivotal part of the plot but what kind of idiot invests their kid’s inheritance in a heli-ski business to the tune of half a million dollars?

I’m sure it will work out but yikes, look into the bond market.

Sarah Mac This American doesn’t even know what that is. 🧐

Kristina Hmmm. The author is Canadian but set her story in Montana but has them making butter tarts. It’s either an easter egg or she’s unaware. Next they’ll be noshing on Nanaimo bars.

Sarah what is a butter tart??

Kristina It’s kind of like a mini pecan pie but without pecans and usually with rum soaked raisins.

Sarah interesting. Is this English?

Catheryn Not this American

Kristina Sarah wrote: "interesting. Is this English?"

Canadian.

Kristina Catheryn wrote: "Not this American"

Weird choice by the author then.

message 9: by Catheryn (new)

Catheryn Very weird, especially since there are so many other dishes that are common in America.

Merry (got new glasses and sigh...) I do know what mince meat pies are. Does this count?

Kristina I think she should have set the book in Canada lol. If she wants to highlight Canadiana, MAKE THE BOOK CANADIAN.

That or have them serve snickerdoodles.

Kristina Merry wrote: "I do know what mince meat pies are. Does this count?"

No because those are gross. 😆
Kidding, It counts. It wasn’t a test really, I was just wondering why she had ppl in Montana making them when I didn’t think they were a known entity outside of Canada.

Sarah Mac I was gonna say…while I’m sure there’s some Canadiana crossover in the border states (Minnesota in particular, lol), if you’re really wanting to show off Canadian stuff, SET THE BOOK IN CANADA. 🙄

And I love that shit! I love secret Canadian Easter egg stuff in Canadian books. Like naming two players on the same curling team Gord…no one will get that but a Canadian but it will only be mildly perplexing to other readers and not affect their enjoyment.

Also I love Minnesota and think we should offer to make them the 11th province.

Sarah Mac The non-in-joke readers won’t GAF so long as both Gords are hot & great in bed. 😂

If you guys annex Minnesota, let me know beforehand & I’ll move there. 🫢

Kristina All Canadians are great in bed and hot so that’s just realism at play 😉.

I’ll give you a super secret heads up when we do it. You’ll have to practice your folksy accent.

Sarah Mac Bwahaha. Obv I’ve been looking for love in the wrong places. 😂😈

Awesome. I’ll start packing my books in boxes right now, so I can be ready.

Kristina As long as you’re good with the name Gordon.

message 20: by Sarah Mac (new)

Sarah Mac Hey, so long as he’s hot & good in bed. 😏 I do hate the names Keith & Adam, so hopefully those aren’t popular up north.

Kristina No. Not a lot of those. We have many Jasons though.

message 22: by Sarah Mac (new)

Sarah Mac I’m neutral on that name, so no worries.
