I grabbed the oils. Slowly, he submerged himself and I poured a little sandalwood smelling oils into the bath. His arms rested on the sides of the large tub and I saw his spread legs as an invitation to join him.
As I sat between them, encased by his body, the urge to weep was overwhelming. I didn’t stop the tears and Chris didn’t say anything. He just wrapped his arms around me and let me fall apart.

“This is why I hate sleeping pills,” Chris grumbled into a mug of coffee. He’d only taken half a pill. “I feel like I’m underwater. I’m never taking these again. Flush them, burn them.” He tried slapping his face.
“Are one of the side effects suddenly turning into a drama queen?” I made a show of reading the bottle and he swiped it from my hand.

“We don’t have time to count the tally of who did what. We all did what we were supposed to. That's why you’re both here. So let’s get ready for the day and figure out how to make the motherfuckers pay.” Like the hurricane he was, Snow was out the door before he finished speaking. Simon and I just looked at each other and began laughing.
“He’s scary sometimes,” Simon said through giggles.

I didn’t know if I was glad he was underestimating Snow or angry he was dismissing him. One thing I worked hard at was keeping Snow’s gift a secret. Only those who absolutely had to know did. He’d been used for his gift before and I’d promised that would never happen again. Because of how Snow looked and acted, he was often cast aside as a non-threat. But that was everyone’s mistake.

With the mantra of "hold on, hold on" playing in my head, I made for Simon’s room. I stopped dead in my tracks when I found Buck laying in front of his closed door.
“Oh, sweetheart.” Kneeling in front of the dog that drove me crazy, I did my best to console him. “I promise I’ll bring him home. Please believe in me.” He whined and let out a sad howl. It ripped my heart in two and I wanted to weep with him.

I knew I was shouting, but we needed to be on the same page. My family was attacked, taken, possibly killed. This wasn’t okay and I was going to make sure we got back our family.

I give kudos for the fact you read books a second time. I rarely do unless it's amazing to me, there's just so many books to read and so little time.

I've enjoyed them just as much the second time! 😊
I need to read them then, I'm always after good books even though my to be read pile grows continuously.
