In the bad old days, some airlines were too afraid to carry me. It might also have been difficult to find accommodation. But something had changed. Airlines had no problems, hotels were willing to welcome us, the country's arms were open wide. I was no longer a person to fear. Affection had replaced fear in the public mind.

What I cared about now was continuing, writing the next chapter in the book of life. The attack felt like a large red ink blot spilled over an earlier page. It was ugly, but it didn't ruin the book. One could turn the page, and go on.
