The setup is more complex than “Textual Confession” but somehow less interesting. Possibly because it feels like a reimagining of the same story: An accidental run-in, a mistaken identity perpetuated by a lie, a dominating billionaire with a contract, a brat with insta-love… even the descriptions are the same and repetitive. While the run-ins are interesting, there isn’t much by way of character development >

< .. so I feel like I could care less about these characters that are eerily the same as the previous book. I want an enemies to lovers sidequest with Jensen, instead of a cop who continuously makes terrible decisions like travel to Italy with a fake name but his real passport presumably with a MAFIA BOSS. Like, really. At least give him a flaw like he’s breaking rules cause he knows he can get away with it? — 2
