Bella Stanton Alrighty, it’s gonna seem so random but here it is nonetheless 🤣😝:

“I won’t let it!” he snarled. That’s when he upturned us, flopping onto our scrambling bodies. And he wasn’t the only one stopping us.
A dozen other men on this ship were untouched by bullets and blades.
Safely getting to the gunport was not only a task, but a suicide mission.
It wasn’t possible. Not anymore.
Sweat drenched my forehead. Blood soaked my skin.

Bella Stanton Ooh nice one! Here it is:

“Why were you so scared of the wolves, anyway?” I smirked.
Raina’s jaw clenched in return as she set her head up against the wooden wall. “I think you know.” She thought I knew.
Maybe I did.
The terrors of six years ago weren’t mine alone.
Her lips ticked. “So this is where you live?”
“Your mother was killed by the wolves, wasn’t she?”
That fazed her. For a second or two. Then she recovered with yet another question about my dirty little shack: “Won’t the gypsum sand eat away at it?”
I laughed, biting the inside of my cheek. “The place is on stilts.”
“And so is your ego.”
Oof. This girl had a fiery tongue.
For that, I hated her deeply.
No, it didn’t hurt. Aye, it gave me more reason to swell with ferocity. “Would you look at that?” Vadim finished rounding the room and breaking the bread, giving me the perfect chance to say, “Looks like the bread’s gone. Sorry, you don’t get any.”
She only snorted. “Neither do you.”

Bella Stanton Snippet from page 33: “There could be thousands of reasons they haven’t shown you their faces, Raina.” He hesitated, his raspy voice working its way down to a whisper. “I’m just not sure of them yet.”
Comforting.
Really comforting.
Like a soaking washcloth instead of a blanket in the chill of night.

Bella Stanton Page 2: To a small boy who lacked a proper home, and lived on the charred streets of Aqueren, nothing on this small island could make me swell up with more joy than seeing the light in my mother’s eyes.
Now, I didn’t understand why she had to leave me.
Why?

message 20: by Bella (new)

Bella Stanton Page 302: “We are not here to fight like children. We are here to find answers. This is the way we can be helpful, okay? Please don’t make them kick us out again.” Her eyes were too blue. Everytime I looked in them, I couldn’t hold her gaze. Because they may have looked soft and sweet, but in reality, they were fire and spikes.
“He… he…” No. I couldn’t tell her. He may have called me a rat for my ways of lurking, but she already heard that part. “What else is there to find out, Nox?”

message 21: by Bella (new)

Bella Stanton Page 33 (has biggest plot twist so can’t share much): I almost didn’t breathe. Didn’t dare think or swallow. As the spit in my mouth ran dry, every single thought within my head vanished.

message 26: by Bella (new)

Bella Stanton *333

message 31: by Bella (new)

Bella Stanton @Jotcore: that is SO real 🤣🤣🤣🫣

message 32: by Bella (new)

Bella Stanton 269: It would be quick.
Quicker than suffocating on Gintah.
“Behold, the boy born of the slums, slowly raised to power!”
I could hear the blade slashing the air.
However, it stopped right as I took what I thought would be my last breath.
Lungs aching, I dared to open my eyes.

message 33: by Bella (new)

Bella Stanton 340: A braid only semi-suited Raina, but a horse? Clearly, their owners couldn’t distinguish a horse’s mane from a woman’s head of hair. That was one thing I never understood about horses, let alone people.

message 35: by Bella (new)

Bella Stanton Of every word, every breath, nothing would comfort me.
Even the dahlia in her hair couldn’t bring me joy.
Not now.
For my brain filled with clouds and storms.
“When has a choice never been yours to make?”
Her mind spun as she considered the words; soon enough the gears clicked, and she dropped her soft gaze. “There was nothing else I could do.”
Nothing else she could do?
So she just had to leave me.
And she didn’t dare to explain her logical reasoning?
Right now, I couldn’t be sure she had any.
“Please, Mother, I’m not a child. Why did you lie to me? Why did you leave?”
They stung. I could see it in her eyes.
The hesitant bite of her lower lip…

message 36: by Bella (new)

Bella Stanton 44: Before I could say another word, all encompassing darkness of the room became mental when King Salinger looked Dieten in the eye. Menacingly. Whatever it was for, I couldn’t know. All until his voice boomed, popping the bubble of silence, “Take him to cell twenty-three.”
Of course.
Luck always remained on my side in the past.
For I stayed alive on my own after Mother left, and had good old Waylen feeding me all he could afford. Starting yesterday morning, all luck got pushed aside. Misfortune took its place.
