'Pickles, stay still, I am going to gently pull you backwards.' I heard a little bit of huffing from Claire, before Pickles' face began to disappear backwards. Once he was freed I quickly went through the cat flap to join him. 'Well this is a bit of a pickle, Pickles.' Claire laughed at her own joke.

I left with a grin on my face, and took myself to bed. I curled up, and thought about the day. So much had happened, it had been ridiculously busy, a mixture of good and bad. And as I prepared to
drift into sleep I hoped that it would be a calmer day tomorrow.

When I woke up, I stretched, and gently nudged Pickles who was still snoring, loudly I may add. The bigger he got, the noisier he seemed to become.

'It's going to be so much better for all of us, including me,' Jonathan said. 'Are you talking to Alfie or yourself?' Claire snuck up on us, taking us both by surprise. 'Alfie, of course, he's a great listener,' Jonathan said. 'Meow,' I responded. I really was.

I let Pickles follow me around the house, he said he needed to watch me to learn about being a better cat. I didn't even have the energy to point out for what felt like the millionth time that he was a puppy.

The children had been teaching Pickles the joy of playing with a tennis ball, which is something that cats see as being beneath them. Pickles would wait for them to throw it and bring it back to them over and over again. Which kind of highlighted the difference between dogs and cats, but if it made him happy...

'Is this what I think it is?' George asked, sounding horrified.
'What do you think it is?' I asked.
'A dog, they got a dog.'

'Look, George,' I said, hopping on my paws excitedly as the stars began to appear in the sky. 'Look at that bright star. What do you see?' 'It's her, I just know it,' George said, sounding happier, 'It's Tiger Mum.'

It had been a very stressful time lately, and for my kitten
George - who would probably argue that he was no longer a kitten but a proper cat - so we were enjoying a well-deserved holiday and a much-needed change of scene.
