I had something planned to write but I’m just gonna leave this excerpt from the end of what we read this morning:

“You’re becoming a person; that much is unavoidable.

And you’re going to end up somewhere in life.

Why not become a person who is pervaded by the love of Jesus?

Why not end up in union with God?”

Banger of a discussion. Talked a lot about hurry and about death. Being constantly aware of our timely fates will ironically lead to us leading better lives. It puts our ‘resumé virtues’ in a battle against our ‘eulogy virtues’. The things we ‘accomplish’ in our time on this big blue marble are going to pale in comparison to the lives we touch. Don’t lose ambition, but don’t lose yourself to it.

Good stuff. I think the recurring theme of the last few years of my life has been prayer. Incessant, thoughtful prayer without fear of ‘messing up’ or even ‘doing it right’. Simple attempting the act, for long enough and with enough love will produce more fruit than doing nothing.

A stark contrast in style after reading most of The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry. Seems he received some feedback, because Practicing the Way is much more self-serious book. Not complaining!
