i know this book is called ‘red platoon’ but it is really just about red platoon. it doesn’t really tell me much about clinton. it tells you What they do, but not why. it’s not interesting. there’s no urgency, no stakes, no real narrative here. no criticism, no anti-war sentiment. this is a “Real War Story” something a recruiter would make you read.

something that lowers this book compared to the last memoir i’ve read is a lack of emotional weight. maybe its because i’m reading it in audiobook form over text, maybe its because it’s not read by the author, but i don’t really have any relatability or emotional connection with clinton. and i also feel like the story isn’t *his*, it’s the platoon’s. which is a problem.
