Wagner was simultaneously a jinx and a wimp if you ask me. *lol* Frankly, it's amazing that he wasn't one of those "instant miracle workers" who was born a superstar so to speak. Definitely not a guy I'd want to be involved with though. Sheesh! (Not that his dear wife seems to have been much better.)

It's hard to imagine that someone who had to constantly borrow (but never paid back) money and was always such a drama queen / whiney ass (to say nothing of him not having been that attractive, visually) was also this successful with women. I mean, the sheer amount of female idiots pining after him or even entering into an affair with him ... *shakes head in disbelief*

The times Wagner lived in! Sheesh! From deposed kings and French revolutions to this place becoming something called Germany. Interesting times indeed - and OF COURSE he, jinx that he is, was not always getting out unscathed.
We're finally getting to his really good compositions! *rubs hands together*

The book is wonderfully written (I'm reading the original German)! They don't make them like this anymore. *lol* No, seriously, the author's vocabulary and his sense of how to phrase certain events in appropriate language showcases how attuned he is to the matter at hand.
We're getting not only Wagner's personal story but also a lot of history to put it all into context and I'm so here for it!
