Ah, the series is like crack again. :D

I wanted to read one volume per month, but then #2 was late and so I'm reading #2 and #3 back-to-back.

Ah, the budding romance. I had forgotten that it was here it all began. *chuckles*

Another "first" is the encounter with what "the others" have done to certain worlds.

So far, hands down, the greatest horror is what has been done to Homer though. *shudders* No, I wouldn't take any prisoners either.

This is the account of a Bundespolizist, equivalent of the FBI/Marshals in the US (in this case mostly tasked with border control), and thus more "emotional".

It tells his life story and the reason why he quit (in Germany, a cops is a Beamter, meaning much better pay than in the US and a job for life so giving up all those benefits AND your own idealism means the situation must indeed have been unbearable).

I decided to read this book alongside a scientific analysis of the gathered data on immigration and its results (desired or not).

As feared, this book gives the real-life look, boots on the ground so to speak, of what the data from the other book shows. And it confirms that the other author was right about the shortcomings (mostly politically) and that his suggestions for improvement are dearly necessary.

I like how the author is making the case for preventive measures. Clearly, a lot of his suggestions are the exact opposite of what the country I live in has done so far. Let's not get into the reasons that seem to form the basis, but it means I like the book and the analysis a lot.

A heavy topic, definitely VERY important where I live.

I'm glad the author knows what he's talking about and is not taking an emotional or propagandistic, but a scientific approach (he's a forensic psychiatrist). Makes the book drier than what most people might be used to, but it's exactly the approach we need.

This 2nd book doesn't have full-sized illustrations on the end papers but instead show some of the species that make an appearance here plus one of the Bobs in one of his VR chair.

I'm actually surprised about how the boys ended up on the Long Walk. I was expecting something more sinister but apparently most can be chalked up to laziness / naiveté / idiocy?! Not that that means any of them deserve this but I do wonder what the point of it all is supposed to be ... we still have time to find out though.

We still don't have too much information on the why behind the Long Walk or the boys' being there for this one. I like it that way but I do hope we will be getting an explanation eventually. More details have been trickling in and especially a recent one has the potential to be really awesome (in a FUBAR kinda way).

Ok, so my suspicions are confirmed: she killed someone in the past. Question is: was it justified?

And I'd give that "neighbor" a piece of my mind if he came onto my property unbidden, unannounced, and unwanted! *gnashes teeth*

Once again, a weird tale that leaves you disoriented, and not just because of some linguistic choices. Can't wait to find out the mystery (I deliberately didn't read the blurb).

I might watch the movie soon, but that's not why I'm finally reading this story. I need to catch up on several of the Bachman stories (Running Man included).

We've met the boys, they've completed their first mile. I'm curious to see the "obstacles" since 7.x miles is the longest anyone has lasted so far?

OK, so we have to talk about that introduction by SK himself.

I don't know if he was on drugs or what, but what an asshole?

He's seriously as pissed-off about people having figured out he was writing under a pseudonym as if they had broken into his house?! Also, HE decided to kill Bachman as a result, he didn't HAVE to (many authors don't and it works out well) so how can he blame people for his "death"?!

Hm, I was almost disappointed when, at the beginning of this last part, the groups split in an almost civilized manner. *lol* But never fear (if you haven't read this yet): there were still plenty of dangers and obstacles left. Not least, of course, the worst of the imaginable (nom nom nom).

Yesssss. After a horribly foreboding beginning, we're now into storm territory, the fateful shipwreck, and being stranded on an island where it really didn't take long for peoples' true characters to emerge.

I cannot begin to put into words how much I enjoy such stories as they offer a frightfully frank glimpse at human psychology / depravity.

*gnashes teeth*

I don't know what I want to do more: pull Caroline's hair and bash her head against a wall until she's sorry or hit Mr. Darcy over the head with something. *lol* At least he is actually a good guy whereas that entitled bitch is ... well, NOT.

Oh, we're in volume III now, where Lizzy visits Pemberley with her aunt and uncle. I'm so EXCITED! :D Mr. Darcy's moment to shine is almost here. *grins*

Into volume II now that Mr. Collins has settled on Charlotte Lucas after Lizzy turned him down. Sweetie, you dodged a bullet there!

While I understand that Charlotte was anxious to get married at all (supposedly, she's not as pretty as any of the Bennett sisters AND already "older"), I also understand why that settling for Mr. Collins (or anybody) makes a freethinker like Lizzy despair.

I loooove this book so far! It gives me Master and Commander vibes!

Also, Ray Porter is the narrator so BONUS! :D

I never liked Mr. Wickham (even when I first read this book) - he was all too ready to besmirch Mr. Darcy's reputation and far too quickly. The fact that Elizabeth didn't notice that seriously disappoints me to this day.

The ball at Netherfield is a truly wonderful scene in this book though. So much delicious conflict! :D (Only the confrontation between Lizzy and Mr. Darcy followed by the latter's letter is better.)

Here comes Mr. Collins! *throws up in her mouth a little*

The sun sets later, there is more daylight overall, and the days are also warmer and - most importantly - sunny!

Netflix is doing another adaptation, a series. I saw the teaser ... Lizzy and Darcy are looking good, no weird casting that I can see thus far, but I'm nervous. Well, I always am, but lately there has been even more reason for concern. And this IS one of my all-time favorite books so ...

Yep, as expected. Though after a certain scene, I expected a somewhat more satisfying set-up/explanation?

Well, ladies and gentleman, romance and slasher fans, we have our ending ... or what is the fake ending we get at first in any horror movie. ;) I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I can already tell you, though, that this was awesome! Review will be up in a few minutes.

Everyone, stand back. Forget the killer, the tension, whoever you're rooting for - there is a women in a dress WITH POCKETS!

Yes, gentlemen, this is a priority because such dresses are AWESOME (practical while still pretty) and rarer than a unicorn! I totally understand the MC's envy (it's not her dress). *lol*

We're too far into the plot for me to say much, but I would like to take a moment to appreciate the chapters' headers:
Quotes from classical romance books/movies that were slightly twisted by a killer element to represent both genres, the MC's love for them, & her well-founded opinion that they have more in common than not.

More of my predictions coming true now. I don't mind though as the atmosphere is awesome. Plus, we have almost half the book still to go so who knows in what way(s) the author is playing with tropes and our expectations.
